Warum sollten wir in Zeiten, in denen uns KI soviel abnimmt, auch noch selber den Schlummermodus eines Weckers aktivieren?

In the world of automation and artificial intelligence, why should the day start with something as inconvenient as being rudely awoken just to hit the snooze button?

This self-snoozing alarm clock is a critical art about the culture of convenience. An alarm clock that’s design to snooze itself, using the blend of analog and digital tech.

Made using Raspberry Pi 2, it connects with a servo that triggers when the alarm is on.

The hand will come out and Snooze the alarm clock manually, hitting the snoozing button which then activate the program, making it running indefinitely.

Making A Billion-Year Lego Clock

Brick Technologie mit einer wahrlich eigenwilligen Lego-Kreation: einer Uhr, die die Zeit für die nächsten 10000000 Jahre anzeigen kann. Alleine auf so eine Idee muss man ja erstmal kommen.

Building a mechanical Lego clock that keeps time for 10000000 years. The clock has dials to display seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, millenia, mega-annums and galactical years (time required for the Sun to orbit once around the centre of the Milky Way Galaxy).

The first component resembles a grandfather clock with a weight-driven pendulum anchor escapement. The escapement wheel rotates 1 tooth per second. Different gear trains transmit motion from the escapement to all complications from days to years to decades.

As soon as the weight touches the ground, a rewinding motor is triggered to raise the weight and “recharge the clock”. This happens every 2 minutes. A solar powered battery fuels the energy storage for the electric rewind motor. Under a cloudless sky the solar panel generates more energy than consumed by the Lego pendulum clock. A bigger energy storage could be added to run the clock at night time. To increase solar panel efficiency the solar panel is mounted on a tilting mechanism that is connected to the 24h complication, following the sun during daytime.

Similar to an astronomical clock, this Lego timepiece features complications beyond minutes and hours. It displays units of times based on orders of magnitude of the second. Days, mean months and years are counted. The biggest unit is the “billion year display” that is basically a mechanical counter displaying years in decimals.

Ringuhr

Ich trag ja keine Uhren, trug ich noch nie. Aber diese Uhr, die gleichzeitig ein Ring ist, würde ich mir schon auf den Finger stecken. Die Ringclock ist aus Stahl, kommt mit LEDs, Ladestation und ist wohl auch wasserdicht. Die Indiegogo-Kampagne hat fast $400.000 eingesammelt und man kann das Teil für $265.00 vorbestellen. Teurer als Modeschmuck, aber der leuchtet einem ja auch keine Uhrzeit.

WaterColorBot Water Clock

Welch hübsches Exemplar einer außergewöhnlichen Uhr. Und selbst wenn das Ticken, welches ich besonders gerne an Küchenuhren mag, fehlt, gibt es sanfte Geräusche kleiner Motoren. Das ist zwar nicht so romantisch wie ein Ticken, sieht aber verdammt gut aus. Man kann eben nicht alles haben, wusste meine Oma schon zu sagen.

We built a evaporating-hand water clock using a WaterColorBot fitted with a Buddha Board. The Buddha Board is a black board with a gray ceramic coating that becomes transparent when wet, so you can paint on it with plain water to make black marks that disappear as the water evaporates.
