Ein visuell-poetischer Roadtrip: Last Exit to Elsewhere

Based off conversations William Least Heat-Moon had on the road in his book ‚Blue Highways: A Journey into America.‘ This film represents my journey of lonely miles through small towns and empty highways.

In late 2015 I went on a 5,000mile road trip through the bottom half of the US from California to Louisiana and back. Driving through back-road highways, much like the Least Heat-Moon, I avoided the Interstate Highways as much as I could. It is off these Interstate highways where you can still find remnants of America as it used to be, maybe back when the author drove through it in the late 70’s. Over the course of my journey whilst reading ‚Blue Highways‘ I found my experiences on the road mirrored that of the author and though it was written in 1978, still held true to my journey in 2015.

Ich muss unweigerlich an Drop City und Into the Wild denken. Hach.

In January 2015 8 of us chipped in and bought ourselves an old Ford E-350 school bus. We spent the next 5 months renovating and fixing it up to road trip shape. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough since we had to leave her in Trapper Creek Alaska with a broken transmission. I hope you enjoy watching our adventure. Kickstarter campaign to save the bus is coming soon!

„My sister is not too excited about my performances during our 7 hour road trip or my choice of music.“

The Obsessively Detailed Map of American Literature’s Most Epic Road Trips.

53 Tage, 9263 Kilometer: A Trip To Norway

Exactly one year ago i travelled with a good friend of mine and his husky to norge. We started in Kristiansand in the south and travelled up north to the Lofoten and did pretty much everything that norge has to offer along the way! From Trolltunga to Galdhøpiggen to Skottinden… everything! We washed and showered in the beautiful fjords of Norge, have brought our food from home, slept in our car and packaged all our gear in two roof boxes on top of our trusted Ford Mondeo.
A trip of our life time – A Trip To Norway!

Jahrhunderts.

No More Road Trips? isn’t a conventional documentary. It’s made completely from home movies that were shot by hundreds of people, starting in the mid-1920s. Its narrative traces a composite automobile journey from the Atlantic to the Pacific, beginning with the shoreline and historical monuments of New England and ending on a beach in southern California.

Other than a faint ambient soundtrack, the film is silent. I’ve written no narration, nor have I commissioned music. The primary soundtrack for this fully participatory film will be made fresh daily by audiences at each screening. Perhaps they’ll identify some of the places that come and go in the 600-plus shots that currently populate the cut. Perhaps they’ll ask me questions, or answer those posed by others. Or perhaps they’ll react tendentiously, in the manner of Question Time in the British House of Commons, or riff rowdily in the style of the Elizabethan theater. Once the movie starts, it belongs to the audience. I don’t want to limit how people will respond to the film. But I hope they will act on their permission to speak and create a commentary, not just on the scenes that pass by as our trip speeds west, but on what automobility, speed and travel mean to them. And I hope they’ll be moved to think about whether we’ve reached the end of the open road.

The idea was to road trip from Alaska to Los Angeles, explore Southern and Central Africa, and tour South America on dirt bikes. Reaching a tipping point, my friend and I decided it was time. We booked a one-way ticket to Alaska, bought a used truck, and hit the road.
This documents our journey for 6 months, over 3 continents, in 13 countries. Our travels stretched across the United States, Canada, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, South Africa, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.
