I moved from Germany to Norway a couple of years ago. The fact that the Norwegian language isn’t that different from the German one, might have helped a bit, but it’s also important for me to actively socialize. Without that I would be screwed ;)
It’s not hard and it’s not easy – you get used to that, if you want to.
But for teaching those employees how the other side feels I think this is a good way to go.
