Ein Co-op-Supermarkt in Sheffield sorgt ob seiner „wohlig“ klingenden Tiefkühltruhen regional aktuell für etwas Aufsehen. Die klingen in der Summe nämlich tatsächlich nach warmen Ambientsounds und auf reddit fragt man sich, ob das wohl so gewollt sein könnte. Alim Kheraj, der in der Nähe wohnt, war für den Guardian mal da und hat sich das genauer angehört. Vielleicht hat Warp ja Interesse einem Release…

Jedenfalls habe ich es mir eigentlich recht romantisch vorgestellt, hier heute zu Hause in einem Schneesturm zu sitzen und dabei zum Ausgleich dieses so gar nicht stürmische Stück Musik von Daniel Imhof zu hören. Ich finde, das hätte aufgrund der Gegensätzlichkeit wahnsinnig gut zusammengepasst. Jetzt höre ich es ohne Sturm, ohne Schnee. Auch gut. Aber vielleicht kommt da ja noch was.

Built from modular synthesis, slow-moving textures, and site-specific field recordings — the Chräbsebächli stream by the house, migrating birds crossing the Büsselimoos (a small, biodiverse wetland) — the music unfolds in a calm, meditative space.

Recorded as a form of sound research and deep listening, these pieces invite you into the same state of stillness they offered me while making them.

To celebrate the winter solstice I gathered a few friends and family members at home in Reykjavík. Sunrise Session III features Sandrayati, RAKEL and Salóme Katrín on vocals and 4 incredible string players, performing a few choice songs we felt fit the occasion.

On this shortest day of the year, this is our tribute to brighter days ahead. I truly hope you enjoy it. We loved making it.

In Zahlen lässt sich das mittlerweile nicht mehr beweisen, weil wir alle unser Nutzungsverhalten im Netz geändert haben. Weil wir alle weniger Seiten anklicken. Weil es seit Jahren weniger wird. Ich musste „Angrboda“ suchen, man kann ja nicht alles wissen. Nur damit ihr wisst, womit ihr es hier zu tun habt.

Angrboda (an Angrboða:„Angstbotin, -bringerin; Kummerbereitende“) ist in der nordischen Mythologie eine Riesin.

Sie gebiert in der Verbindung mit Loki drei Kinder: den Riesenwolf Fenrir, die Midgardschlange Jörmungand sowie die Totengöttin Hel. Wegen der Gefahr, die die Kinder für die Götter bedeuteten, wurde Fenrir mit der Fessel Gleipnir gebunden, Jörmungand von den Asen ins Meer geworfen und Hel in die Unterwelt gebannt, wo sie als Herrin der Toten waltet.

Angrboda wird häufig mit der „Alten vom Eisenwald“ (Alte im Jarnvidr) der Völuspá gleichgesetzt. Als solche gebar sie „die Brut Fenrirs“ Hati und Skalli sowie Managarm.

Ich bin hier heute spät dran, da ich trotteliger gestern hab mein MacBook auf Arbeit liegen lassen, was mir genau genommen nie passiert, aber irgendwann geht das mit „älter werden“ halt los.

Nach dem ich im November auf dem Liquid Sound Festival war Oakin im Dezember vor Ort in Bad Sulza und hat dort seine Definition von Unterwassermusik zum Besten gegeben. Da ist es nicht nur so, dass die der meinigen sehr nahe ist, sondern auch so, dass einige der Sachen, die in seinem Mix stecken, auch von mir dort schon gespielt wurden. Vielleicht, weil es anders ja gar nicht sein kann. Dazu hat er cinematische Sounds mit Downbeats, einer Prise Jazz, mit Bass und mit Dubstep zusammengebracht. Immer mit der Ruhe und bloß keine Hektik. Sind hier ja auch nur noch zwei Tage vor Urlaub und damit kann zumindest ich den schon mal ganz wunderbar vorfühlen, nech? Ihr hoffentlich auch.

Es ist jetzt über sieben Jahre her, als ich das letzte Mal beim Liquid Sound Festival „Unterwassermusik“ spielen und aufnehmen konnte. Irgendwie lagen dann Corona und andere Terminlichkeiten im Weg, um das mal wiederholen zu können. Nun aber am 01.11.2025 hatte ich dann mal wieder diese Möglichkeit, in Bad Sulza für Schall unter Wasser sorgen zu können. Und es war wieder ein Mal mehr lieblingsweltschönst. Musikalisch halt eine ganz andere Welt, atmosphärisch eh. So voll jedenfalls habe ich die Therme nachts bisher auch noch nie gesehen.

Und ich dachte, wenn ich schon mal da war und aufgenommen habe, bietet es sich ja an, die 5. Unterwassermusik zu meinem Tag (Gott sei Dank, noch keine 50!) hinter mein Türchen zu legen. Musik, wie ich sie unter Wasser halt gerne hören wollen würde. Von allem bisschen und ganz zum Schluss „The Ancient Sounds of the God“. Immer noch ein unfassbar epischer Tune.

Mein Auswärtsreinrutschgeburtstag am Meer endet hier jetzt erstmal und ich mach mich auf den Weg nach Hause. Auf diesem wird dann dieser Mix laufen. Passt zeitlich auch ziemlich genau. Stimmung thermal.

Tearooms in post-revolution Czechoslovakia symbolised places through which new spiritualities were flowing, and the influx of largely uncharted ways of life closely intertwined with new age, ambient, folk and minimalism. With their minds altered thanks to smuggled records by Fripp & Eno or Steve Reich, this loose network of musicians had begun composing meditative music, using loops and handmade instruments, with a different sensibility.

Music journalist Pavel Klusák dubbed this 1990s scene a “tearoom alternative”. Experimental folk singer Oldřich Janota, Jaroslav Kořán’s various ensembles like Modrá or Orloj Snivců (The Horologe of Dreamers) or Irena and Vojtěch Havlovi were drawn by the light and composed music that didn’t match the fast pace of newly imported capitalism.

ich habe lange nichts von Pablo Bolivar gehört. Dass, obwohl ich den musikalisch mehr als nur schätze. The quote arrived on my album website after I asked “What do you want to express, which you feel you can’t in everyday life?”. Using thousands of anonymous quotes, my On Being album attempts to capture the experience of being human, now.

This was one of the first quotes from the database that reached out and grabbed my guts and squashed them. I had to tackle it, and I immediately contacted Aho Ssan with the idea, because his approach to music contained some of the intensity and noise elements that I felt were needed to deliver the quote.

It was submitted anonymously, so over the past few years I had a story in my mind about who submitted it and why. But then ahead of the Bristol show I heard from Robbie Evans, the writer of the words, who I met at the show. If any of you submitted any of the words in the project I’d love to hear from you so I can put a face to the name of the words I’ve spent my last 3 years with.

We’re devotees of the great Brian Eno, raised on the 4AD label, and nurtured on KLF’s pioneering Chill Out and Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works on Warp. Ever-curious listeners, we soaked up the German vibrations of early Ash Ra Tempel before diving into the abyssal basslines of Moritz Von Oswald or the stark minimalism of Pole.
