Der Kieler Boris „Swift Rock“ Leptin und der Eutiner Niels „Storm“ Robitzky zählen zu den Pionieren des Breakdance in Deutschland. Mit ihrer Gruppe „Battle Squad“ werden sie in der Szene weltweit bekannt, treten in großen Unterhaltungsshows auf und tanzen Anfang der 90er Jahre sogar in New York auf der Straße – dort, wo Breaking seinen Ursprung hat. „Wenn wir gesagt haben, dass wir aus der Nähe von Hamburg kommen, wurden wir gefragt: welche U-Bahn-Linie fährt da denn hin? Die dachten, Hamburg sei ein Vorort von New York. Aber es war ein absoluter Glücksmoment, anderswo auf der Welt Menschen zu finden, die Breaking so lieben wie wir“, erinnern die beiden sich.

Das Breaking-Fieber erreicht auch die DDR. Dort werden Heiko „Hahny“ Hahnewald und andere ostdeutsche Breaking-Pioniere anfangs von den Behörden skeptisch beobachtet, doch der Tanz erlebt auch im sozialistischen Einheitsstaat einen Boom. „Für viele ostdeutsche Jugendliche war es einfach ein Weg, um aus dem Leben in der DDR kurz auszubrechen.“

It made its Olympic debut at the 2018 Summer Youth Games in Buenos Aires. The IOC has confirmed it will be staged at a prestigious downtown venue, joining sport climbing and 3-on-3 basketball at Place de la Concorde.

The news was greeted with delight by the British breakdancer Karam Singh. „It’s going to be great for breaking as it gives us more recognition as a sport,“ he said. „And for the Olympics, it will attract young people who may not follow some of the traditional sports.“

While many involved in breaking were happy, some expressed concerns that the sport – which is influenced by a variety of sources such as gymnastics, tap dance, capoeira and kung fu – may lose its authenticity by becoming part of the Olympic movement.

Zum 30. Jubiläum hat man sich nun bemüht, Breaker von damals nochmal tanzen zu lassen. Diese sind jetzt 40-50 Jahre alt – und sie können es immer noch. Klasse Idee!

30 years ago 26.04.1986 will held first in history ex-USSR countries breakdance festival MODERN TANTS 86 in small town VINNI – there first time meet Baltic and Moscow City breakdancers …

1984 hat die Stimberg Zeitung zu einem Breakdance-Turnier im Stadtpark aufgerufen und weil ein paar Freunde und ich das gemacht haben, sind wir da hin. 300 Zuschauer waren da – und Besuch aus den USA. 9 Jahre alt müsste der Junge aus Los Angeles damals gewesen sein, den wir alle Leo nannten. Wir waren alle recht aufgeregt, da Leo schon einige Turniere in den USA gewonnen hatte und er sehr ehrgeizig aufgetreten ist.
