Mr. Wild Nature pays homage to its name and builds an incredible mountain home, with sweeping views of golden sunsets and growing trees. His project, however, goes far beyond a house. It is a call for sustainability, installing a renewable energy source and using zero-kilometer materials. With this approach, he manages to create a safe and warm building, with personal touches and highly prepared to withstand the weather conditions of the area.

Julian Nocker hat drei Sommer damit verbracht, sich in Salzburg dieses fantastische Haus in den Garten zu bauen, das zwar wie ein Baumhaus aussieht, aber streng genommen keines ist, denn es fehlt der Baum.

Den Prozess des Baus hat er auf seinem Blog dokumentiert und in diesem Video festgehalten.

I designed and built this treehouse during 3 summer holidays next to my architecture studies. It is the result of my dealing with wood construction, handcraft and space following the ideas and concepts of the childhood treehouse and Japanese teahouses.

It is located in Salzburg Austria, on the exact same place where I had my first actual treehouse built with my brother and father.

I started the project out of the motivation to really build something. To continue where fictional design tasks at university normally end. The liberty of not having to know the exact outcome, of still making decision during the building process, of allowing mistakes to occur and learning from them considerably blurred the usual separation of planning and building.

In the end my treehouse also turned into my diploma thesis and already hosted guests from several countries!

We have travelled all over the globe filming seeking out great examples of small space design. There were so many amazing homes to choose from that it was hard to create a top 5 list. That being said, I think there were some really stand-out designs, and so these are my 5 favourite tiny house tours of 2017.

Wenn Jugend nicht forscht baut dann sie im besten Fall. So wie der 13 Jahre alte Luke Thill aus Dubuque, Iowa. Der hat sich im Garten seiner Eltern sein eigenes Haus gebaut. Für dafür relativ kleines Geld hat er eine Hütte mit Wohn-, Ess- und Schlafzimmer auf zwei Etagen entworfen, die gerade mal 10 m² Grundfläche beansprucht. Die Bude hat ordentlich viel Licht und im Vorgarten baut er – ganz nebenbei – Gemüse an. Bauzeit dafür: gut ein Jahr, Kosten: $1.500. Luke, ich will ein Haus von dir!

Die Fotografin Alla Ponomareva hat sich gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann Garrett eine Finnhütte in die Landschaft gestellt, die am Ende mit nur 700 Dollar Kosten zu Buche schlug. Das romantisch anmutende Nurdachhaus ist nicht sonderlich groß, reicht aber, um dort die ein oder andere Nacht zu verbringen. Wasser und Bad gibt es nicht, dafür aber ein Solarpanel, was dafür sorgt, dass man sein Handy aufladen kann. Entworfen wurde die Hütte von Deek Diedricksen.

Die niedrige Kostennote ergibt sich aus dem Umstand, dass die beiden allerhand Zeug verbaut haben, das sie eh noch rumliegen hatten. Für vieles andere nutzten sie Holz aus dem umliegenden Wald. Ich bräuchte dann jetzt mal so um die 10 qm Land und einen kleinen Wald.

It lays within Vicente Perez Rosales National Park in the X region. My husband used to go to this lake every summer when he was little because his step mom has a house in there. It is a big BIG house, very comfortable that could easily accommodate more than 30 people, it has a big window in the living room of one of the most peaceful and magical views that you could found near the lake … but the most impressive feature is by far the Lake Doll House that was made for the kids that go to the lake: it floats, it has 3 bedrooms and 4 beds, 1 bathroom, a kitchen and a living room and everything works as if it was a real grown up house. The only difference is that you have to be a 9 year old to go through the door or use the bathroom or beds because everything is very small! Last summer we went with my husband who’s now 33 and he almost could’t get in! Also, this is the typical construction style in the area, wooden roof tiles: warm and cute for the hard winters. Bei Tiny House Listings gibt es gerade einen 1997 gebauten Schulbus, der im letzten Jahr von Thomas zu einem wirklich passablen WoMo umgestaltet wurde. Wohnfläche: knapp 19 m². Kosten dafür: $ 24,900. Wer also schon immer mal so eine Karre aus den Staaten haben wollte, oder gerade dort hin will und seine Zeit in einer solchen verbringen mag; bitte schön. Fährt auch.

1997 Thomas built International school bus tiny home for sale. Converted in 2016 it features a queen sized bed with storage underneath, small couch with full storage, antique drop desk, 6 ft kitchen counter top and floor to ceiling shelving in bathroom and closet. The bedroom area has a memory foam mattress, book shelf and two built in night stands with 3 bin cubbies. The closet has dual hanging rods and full shelving. The closet could be converted easily into 6′ bunks.

The interior is all tongue and groove cedar with stain resistant, heavy duty fauz wood flooring. This tiny home is 100% self contained and off grid. There are 600 watt Renogy solar panels mounted on the roof complete with Renogy inverter, batteries and charge controller enclosed in the “utility room” located in the rear of the bus. There are LED rope lights throughout and 7 outlets. The bathroom has a composting toilet with diverter. The bathroom does not have a shower but the shelving area could hold a 3’x3′ shower pan easily. There is also a hand pump sink located in the kitchen area. The heat source is a cast iron wood stove on a brick hearth.

All windows and doors have custom made insulated curtains that can be velcroed in place for extra temperature protection. The cab space is separate from the living area accessible by the bi fold door and has two leather captains chairs. The wooden steps are removable and the living area is accessed by the handicapped swinging door on the side. All remaining windows work great and have bug screens. The walls, ceiling and floor are fully insulated.

Ein Film von und über Richard Louis „Dick“ Proenneke, der in den späten 60ern entstanden und alles andere als langweilig ist. Wohl auch deshalb wird er bei IMDB als einer der besten Dokumentationsfilme aller Zeiten gelistet.

Richard Louis „Dick“ Proenneke (* 4. Mai 1916 in Primrose, Iowa; † 20. April 2003 in Hemet, Kalifornien) war ein US-amerikanischer Hobbynaturforscher und Aussteiger. Er lebte über 30 Jahre lang allein in einem selbstgebauten Blockhaus am Ufer der Twin Lakes in Alaska und versorgte sich dabei durch Fischen, Jagen, Sammeln sowie durch gelegentlich eingeflogene Vorräte. Proenneke dokumentierte seine Aktivitäten während dieser Zeit in Tagebüchern und Filmen und zeichnete auch Wetterdaten und andere Parameter auf.

Proenneke fertigte Filmaufnahmen von seinem Leben in der Einsamkeit an, die später zusammengeschnitten und in der Dokumentation Alone in the Wilderness ausgestrahlt wurden. Der Film zeigt, wie Proenneke seine Hütte aus den natürlichen Ressourcen der Umgebung aufbaut und über die Landschaft, das Wetter und wildlebende Tiere berichtet. Dabei wird sein Alltagsleben während der Wintermonate gezeigt.

I built this hut in the bush using naturally occurring materials and primitive tools. The hut is 2m wide and 2m long, the side walls are 1m high and the ridge line (highest point) is 2m high giving a roof angle of 45 degrees. A bed was built inside and it takes up a little less than half the hut. The tools used were a stone hand axe to chop wood, fire sticks to make fire, a digging stick for digging and clay pots to carry water. The materials used in the hut were wood for the frame, vine and lawyer cane for lashings and mud for daubing. Broad leaves were initially used as thatch which worked well for about four months before starting to rot. The roof was then covered with sheets of paper bark which proved to be a better roofing material. An external fireplace and chimney were also built to reduce smoke inside. The hut is a small yet comfortable shelter and provides room to store tools and materials out of the weather.

Es muss nicht immer ein Reihenhaus sein, nein, auf keinen Fall muss es das. Nick Olson und Lilah Horwitz haben im Jahr 2012 ihre Jobs hingeschmissen und sich damit beschäftigt, so preiswert wie möglich ein Haus nach ihren Vorschlägen und Möglichkeiten zu bauen. In 7 Monaten entstand dabei ein kleines Haus aus Glas in den Bergen West Virginias.

Die Kosten dafür lagen nach Aussage der beiden bei nicht mehr als $500.00. Kein Wunder, wurden primär Baustoffe verwendet, die zwar schon alt, aber immer noch gut genug waren, um erneut verbaut zu werden. Wäre hier wohl so nicht denkbar. Könnte sein, dass die Bauaufsicht da ihre Probleme mit hätte. Ansonsten würde halt nur ein kleines Grundstück im Wald, etwas Geduld und Genügsamkeit zum perfekten Wohnglück fehlen.

The portable wooden huts, located on Antarctica’s Ross Island, gave shelter to well-known British adventurers Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott and their crews. The 20th-century expeditions were the first to explore and study the southernmost continent. (See „Electrifying Photos of the Early Age of Antarctic Exploration Found [2013].“)

The buildings include Shackleton’s 33-foot-long (10-meter-long) Nimrod hut on Cape Royds, where workers unearthed a stash of whiskey and brandy, libations that fortified the men during the 1907 Nimrod expedition. Another, the Terra Nova hut on Cape Evans, was the largest Antarctic building of its time at 50 feet (15 meters) long. It contained a never-before-seen handwritten notebook of George Murray Levick, a member of Scott’s 1910-13 Terra Nova expedition.

The New Zealand-based Antarctic Heritage Trust decided to honor the original explorers by taking the buildings, abandoned in the 1940s, „back in time to when the heroic era of exploration stopped—roughly in 1917, during World War I,“ said lead conservator Gordon Macdonald of Macdonald & Lawrence, a carpentry company located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Working from historical photographs and documents, it took experts ten years to conserve the huts, which had suffered due to water seepage, age, and simply being left to the elements in one of the harshest environments on the planet.

„That they’ve survived for a century is really tremendous good luck—they weren’t made for that at all,“ Macdonald said.
