Seit Jahrzehnten nimmt ein gewisser Aadam Jacobs alle möglichen Live-Konzerte auf. Seine Sammlung von über 10.000 Konzerten seit 1984 umfasst Aufnahmen von Künstlern wie Nirvana, R.E.M., Tracy Chapman, den Pixies, Björk, Depeche Mode, Sonic Youth, The Cure und ganz vielen anderen. Dank der Unterstützung von Archivaren wird die gesamte Sammlung nun im Internet Archive veröffentlicht. Was für eine Fundgrube. Die Qualität der Aufnahmen schwankt, aber man hört halt immer die Live-Atmosphäre. Hier bei Tracy Chapman live im Cabaret Metro, 07.05.1988.

The growing Aadam Jacobs Collection is an internet treasure trove for music lovers, especially for fans of indie and punk rock during the 1980s through the early 2000s, when the scene blossomed and became mainstream. The collection features early-in-their-career performances from alternative and experimental artists like R.E.M., The Cure, The Pixies, The Replacements, Depeche Mode, Stereolab, Sonic Youth and Björk.

There’s also a smattering of hip-hop, including a 1988 concert by rap pioneers Boogie Down Productions. Devotees of Phish were thrilled to discover that a previously uncirculated 1990 show by the jam band is included. And there are hundreds of sets by smaller artists who are unlikely to be known to even fans with the most obscure tastes.

All of it is slowly becoming available for streaming and free download at the nonprofit online repository Internet Archive, including that nascent Nirvana show recording, with the audio from Jacobs’ cassette recorder cleaned up.

Atari’s game, Extra-Terrestrial, was designed in a record five weeks by a single programmer in 1982. The game was a commercial failure due to its poor quality and difficult gameplay. Atari struggled to recover from the poor sales of E.T. and never recovered its reputation among the gaming community. The game is widely held to be the worst video game of all time. Millions of copies went unsold, and Atari ended up literally burying the game by dumping many 728K surplus cartridges into a New Mexico landfill. Within a year of E.T.’s release, the entire video game industry collapsed.

This was a beast of a post to put together. In my other logo posts, I was dealing with hundreds of brands. With record labels, it’s in the thousands. If you include indie and foreign labels, I feel like I could have spent the next few years trying to track down and organize all the label logos out there. Halfway through, I almost decided to split it up by either decade or genre, but it was just too daunting.

Gerade im Zuge des Splatter-Vinyl Beitrags für mich völlig neu entdeckt: Colored Vinyl Records ist ein Online-Archiv, das farbige Schallplatten der letzten Jahrzehnte sammelt und zeigt. Bisher hat man dort über 2500 Exemplare zusammen. Das sieht nicht nur verdammt gut aus, sondern macht auch richtig Spaß. Auch weil da echte Augenweiden bei sind. Und ja, ich weiß, dass einige Fundis finden, dass farbiges Vinyl schlechter als das schwarze klingt – und es ist mir egal.

Ich habe hier noch 450 von irgendwem bespielte VHS-Kassetten rumstehen und tue mich schwer damit, die Dinger wegzuhauen. Die meisten sind nicht mal beschriftet, ich weiß also nicht mal, was auf den Bändern drauf ist, denke aber es sind TV-Mitschnitte aus den 90er Jahren und man weiß ja nie, wozu die irgendwann mal gut sein können.

The VHS Vault sammelt genau derartige VHS-Aufnahmen jeglicher Couleur auf Archive.org. Bisher gibt es dort über 20.000 digitalisierte VHS-Tapes zu sehen. Kleiner Flashback.

Keine Ahnung, wie das von Seiten des Urheberrechts aussieht, aber bei Archive.org gibt es eine über 200.000 Veröffentlichungen umfassende digitalisierte Schellackplattensammlung. Sowohl zum Stream als auch zum Download. Tonnenweise Sample-Material. Geil!

In addition to broad general coverage, the collection includes concentrations in the areas of regional cooking, healthy and vegetarian recipes, corporate advertising cookbooks, and manuscript recipe books.

Der rbb kündigte vor drei Wochen ein umfangreiches Online-Archiv an, das 415 Stunden an privatem Filmmaterial aus der DDR zugänglich machen wolle. Mittlerweile ist dieses als Open Memory Box online und man kann sich durch unzählige, mal mehr mal weniger spannende Privataufnahmen aus der Zeit von 1947 bis 1990 klicken. Und genau für derartige Projekte liebe ich das Internet noch immer hart.

Es folgt die Suche nach Sponsoren und ein deutschlandweiter Aufruf, Filmaufnahmen jeglicher Art aus der Zeit zwischen 1947 und 1990 aus der DDR einzusenden. Dass am Ende 415 Stunden privater Filmsequenzen auf Schmalfilmrollen von fast 150 Familien zusammenkommen, hat selbst die kühnsten Hoffnungen der Initiatoren übertroffen. Sechs Jahre hat es gedauert, das Material zu digitalisieren und zu verschlagworten. Jetzt sind all diese Filmaufnahmen im Netz zu sehen.

Es sind teils berührende, teils intime, oft banale Amateuraufnahmen: Strandszenen, Arbeitswelt, Familienfeiern, Kundgebungen. Spektakuläre Sequenzen, wie die zufällige Aufnahme einer versuchten Republikflucht, gibt es zwar auch, sie sind aber die absolute Ausnahme: Gefilmt wurde ein Mann, der in Kleidung aufs offene Meer hinausschwamm – vermutlich, um zu einer Fähre zu gelangen – und der von einem Boot der DDR-Küstenwache abgefangen wird.(Tagesschau)

Autofriedhöfe hatte ich hier schon des Öfteren. Ganze Sammlungen stehen da mitunter in der Gegend rum. So wie in diesem Fall eine eher hochpreisige. Es handelt sich um die Sammlung eines betuchten Mannes, der irgendwann krank wurde und finanziell ins Schleudern kam. Wenn man in diesem Fall so ausdrücken kann. Finanziell ins Schleudern kommen ist bei einem dutzend Ferraris aufm Acker wohl eher relativ. Jedenfalls sind die Kisten mittlerweile Kisten verkauft, Silodrome aber hat eine recht umfangreiche Fotosserie der auf einem Feld vor sich hingammelnden Ferraris.

Once he started collecting Ferraris he never looked back. He eventually acquired 13 examples of Maranello’s finest including a Testarossa, a 308 Quattrovalvole, a 400i, at least two 328s, at least three 348s, and a small number of Mondials.

Sadly he was diagnosed with a serious illness in 2011/2012, before beginning treatment he paid to have the cars put into secure warehouse storage with a friend.

Sadly, his condition worsened and he missed a few payments, the cars were moved out of the warehouse and into a field as a result. Once payments had resumed and the back-payment had been taken care of the cars were never moved back into the warehouse. This was an exasperating decision to say the least, and it would lead to the cars all degrading significantly over the years to follow.

The Ferraris would stay in the field for almost a decade until legal proceedings were complete and the family was able to take possession.

Seine Sammlung umfasst die ersten Flipper des 19. Jahrhunderts bis hin zu den neuesten digitalen Geräten. Wired war mal da und hat sich das mal angesehen. Und sollte ich mal in der Nähe sein, werde ich dort hingehen.

Ich habe vor einigen Wochen den Feed von Barn Finds abonniert, einem Blog, das sich einzig mit alten Autos beschäftigt, die meistens lang und vergessen in alten Scheunen oder Garagen rumstanden und dann doch wieder entdeckt wurden. Ich mag die Idee des romantischen Dornröschenschlafs einiger alten Autos, die längst vergessen waren und dann doch wieder irgendwie auftauchten. Zumal viele alte Autos ästhetisch halt sehr viel schöner sind als das, was aktuell auf den Straßen rumfährt. Finde ich. Jedenfalls: wer was für alte Autos übrig hat und es irgendwie ebenso spannend findet, wenn diese wiederentdeckt werden, kann gerne öfter mal bei Barn Finds vorbeischauen.

Dort findet man dann auch Videos wie dieses, in dem ein Sammler alter Autos im abgelegenen Teil Alaskas besucht wird, wo er wunderschöne Gefährte auf seinem Hof rumstehen hat.
