Eclectic Method is a producer who works with audio and video. He’s based in Barcelona and his renowned remixes, which often focus on re-imagining pop culture, have appeared on The Colbert Report and CNN. He’s also performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with Chuck D, Questlove and Clyde Stubblefield.

Turns out he loves Against the Clock, and made a track that samples every single episode to date.

Sampling ist das Musizieren des späten 20. Jahrhunderts, was sich ja bis heute durchzieht. Ist so und jeder weiß es irgendwie. Auch wenn allen nicht immer gleich klar ist, wer da was von wem noch mal aufgewärmt hat. Am deutlichsten wird das wohl im HipHop der letzten 50 Jahre, der zugegeben jetzt nie so ganz meiner war, auch wenn ich hin und wieder gerne mal mit zumindest einem Ohr reingehört habe. Spätestens seit Daft Punk spielt Sampling auch im Bereich der elektronischen Musik eine nicht mehr wegzudenkende Rolle. Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn.

Eclectic Method hat sich durch die Geschichte der letzten 55 Jahre Sampling gegraben und verortet die Originale neben den später auch durch diese populär gewordenen Wiederverwendungen. Das ganze mixt er dann auch noch exorbitant großartig in eine zusammenhängende Nummer, die es hier zum Download gibt. Musikalische Aufklärung um Jahre 2014. Absolut Großartig!

A video remix journey through the history of sampling taking in some of the most noted breaks and riffs of the decades. A chronological journey from the Beatles’ use of the Mellotron in the 60s to the sample dense hiphop and dance music of the 80s and 90s. Each break is represented by a vibrating vinyl soundwave exploding into various tracks that sampled it, each re-use another chapter in the modern narrative.
