Ich kann mit Disco nicht ganz soviel anfangen, aber ich mag den, den David Mancuso, der vor drei Tagen im Alter von 72 Jahren starb, auf die Plattenteller brachte. Seine Loft-Parties im New York der 70er waren ein ein Gegenprogramm zu den kommerziellen Clubs in Manhattan, die damals weder Schwarze noch Schwule reinließen.

„Mancuso war eine bärtige Hippie-Erscheinung mit Vorliebe für die Bewusstseinserweiterung-Literatur von Timothy Leary. Weil er keine Schanklizenz besaß, war bei seinen Partys niemand betrunken. Dafür gab es LSD-Punsch. So blendeten sich die Stücke in den Köpfen der Gäste ganz von alleine ineinander. Denn Mancuso mixte seine Platten nicht. Er spielte sie von vorne bis hinten, aus Respekt vor den Musikern, die sie aufgenommen hatten. Trotzdem wurde er zur prägenden Figur der DJ-Kultur.“
