Sisyphus is an art installation featuring two robots engaged in endless cyclic interaction. Smaller robots build brick arches, whilst a giant robot pushes them down. This robotic system propels a narrative of construction and deconstruction.

Named after a figure in Greek mythology, who is condemned to push a boulder up a hill every day only to watch it roll back down afterwards. Sisyphus is a commentary on the current socio-political climate, where systems of authority and resistance continuously clash against each other. Repetition is explored in this piece through the interaction of two contrasting robotic systems; one small and nimble, the other powerful and oppressive – the Greek Sisyphus representing either or both of them.

Lines (57 ° 59´N, 7 ° 16´W) ist eine Lichtinstallation im schottischen Lochmaddy, die visualisiert, wie stark der Meeresspiegel steigen könnte, wenn sich unser Klima in seinem aktuellen Tempo ändert. Die Kollegen Timo Aho und Pekka Niittyvirta installierten Sensoren, um die Flut zu detektieren. Daraus ergibt sich eine Lichtinstallation, die auf Gebäude und Landstriche gepackt wurde und zeigt, wie hoch das Wasser dort mal stehen könnte. Sehr gut visualisiert, wie ich finde.

The installation explores the catastrophic impact of our relationship with nature and its long-term effects. The work provokes a dialogue on how the rising sea levels will affect coastal areas, its inhabitants and land usage in the future.

This is specifically relevant in the low lying island archipelago of Uist in the Outer Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland, and in particular to Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre in Lochmaddy where the installation is situated. The Centre cannot develop on its existing site due to predicted storm surge sea levels.

Letzte Woche zeigten die Künstler von La Machine im Zentrum von Toulouse ihre Wächter des Tempels – der Neuinterpretation einer griechischen Sage. Dabei erinnert die gigantische Spinne an die Sagengestalt Ariadne, die ihren Geliebten Theseus nach dessen Sieg gegen den Minotaurus mit einem Wollfaden aus einem Labyrinth führte. Die Maschinen sind bis zu 14 Meter hoch. Donnerwetter!

Niklas hat in Winnenden mit seiner Wasserorgel eine Installation gebaut, die Wasserfontänen in die Luft bringt, wenn Leute interaktiv eine Midi-Tastatur bedienen. Das ist im städtischen Raum schon ein bisschen was Feines, käme aber auf den Festivals im Sommer noch sehr viel geiler.

The „Wasserorgel von Winnenden“ is a musical fountain, powered by eight pressure washers and controlled by an electronic keyboard. Passers-by are invited to play some tunes on the keyboard and the Wasserorgel responds with a magical water and light show. The machine memorizes each keystroke and repeats random melody fragments, when nobody is interacting with it.

Das Künstlerduo Quintessenz hat mit Kagkatikas Secret eine in 120 Farben leuchtende Installation aus Gewebe in eine 400 Jahre alte griechische Ruine gehängt – und das sieht ziemlich geil aus. Auch ohne den Meerblick, aber den gibt es als Bonus.

The installation is located on the island of Paxos in the Adriatic Sea. This work unfolds in a 400-year-old ruin in the village of Kagatika to offer an aesthetic and unique contrast between the old and the new, waiting for the public to contemplate.
The mesh material is colourized with spray paint in 120 different colour shades, and each layer is getting more prominent when you walk to the window from where you can see the wideness of the view. For the ones who will go there, the installation is a part of the Paxos Contemporary Art Project and will run until September 9th.

Die polnische Künstlerin Karina Smigla-Bobinski hat einen flexiblen Kunststoffballon mit Helium gefüllt, mit Holzkohle gespickt, lässt das Dingen von Besuchern durch frisch geweißte Räume schubsen und nennt diese Art der interaktiven Installation „ADA“. Bin Fan davon.

The artist describes ADA in a statement: “The globe put in action fabricates a composition of lines and points, which remain incalculable in their intensity, expression, and form however hard the visitor tries to control ADA, to drive her, to domesticate her. Whatever he tries out, he would notice very soon, that ADA is an independent performer, studding the originally white walls with drawings and signs.”

Die Projection Wall von Rintaro Hara ist eine vom Boden bis zur Decke reichende Installation, an der Seile in Seifenlauge getaucht werden. Die werden dann von Besuchern über ein Rollsystem hochgezogen. Hinter dem Gitter aus Seilen pusten dann Ventilatoren die großen Blasen in den Raum. Wie eine Wand aus Seifenblasen. Geil.

„Originally created for a solo dancer and 40 pendulums in an abandoned building on New Yorks historic High Line, the installation has been continuously developed in contexts as diverse as the monumental industrial architecture of the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern, and the historical setting provided by the Arsenale of the Venice Biennale. This new edition preserves and privileges two central interests in Forsythe’s oeuvre: counterpoint and the unconscious choreographic competence induced by choreographic situations. Suspended from automated grids, more than 400 pendulums are activated to initiate a sweeping 15 part counterpoint of tempi, spacial juxtaposition and gradients of centrifugal force which offers the spectator a constantly morphing labyrinth of significant complexity.“

Eine interaktive Kunstinstallation von Karina Smigla-Bobinski, für die ein Heliumballon mit diversen Stiften gespickt wurde, der dann von Besuchern durch den Raum bewegt wird und so die Wände „verziert“.

Eine Installation von Mitchell F. Chan, die künstlich geschaffene Wolken miteinander kollidieren lässt, was erstaunlich beruhigend wirkt.

If you want to open a can of soup without using a can-opener you can by grinding the top over the asphalt until enough material is worn away to open it. Erosion is an interesting process. Rubbing one material to another always leads to one of them disappearing to dust. A chair is a common object that’s being rubbed or drawn an awful lot of times. Repeat this motion long enough and the legs of the chair pulverize until there’s nothing left. This installation tries to visualize this unreal process.

„Runtzen“ ist Teil einer Reihe von Arbeiten, die das Doepfer-A-100 Modularsystem sowohl zur Klangproduktion als auch zur Erzeugung von Zeichnungen verwendet. Dabei wird die Spannung, die im Patch auch die Klangsynthese regelt, zur Steuerung von Motoren und Magneten benutzt, die eine mechanische Vorrichtung zur Bewegung eines Zeichenstifts kontrollieren. Mit den Mitteln von Feedback,Spannungssteuerungstechniken und Sampling wird eine permanent variierende, polyphone Struktur vieler, von einander abhängiger Stimmen aus synthetisiertem Material erzeugt. Die so entstehende Rhythmik und Gestik wird dabei sowohl klanglich als auch zeichnerisch umgesetzt.

„The Good, the Bad and the Ugly“ ist die größte Installation, die bisher von Atelier Van Lieshout realisiert wurde. Im Zentrum steht eine Gebäudeskulptur, das „Refektorium“, Spielort der Ruhrtriennale, wo u.a. die Werkstattgespräche stattfinden. Umgeben ist das „Refektorium“ von neuen Arbeiten aus dem Atelier Van Lieshout wie dem „Domestikator“ und ikonografischen Arbeiten wie der „BarRectum“, dem „Workshop for Weapons and Bombs“, dem „Workshop for Medicine and Alcohol“ und schlussendlich „The Heads, Claudia & Hermann“. Darüber hinaus werden datschaähnliche Behausungen wie „Caretaker“, „Domestikator“ und „Farmhouse“ die Großinstallation auf dem Gelände der Jahrhunderthalle Bochum vervollständigen.
