The anaglyph images of Mars taken by the HiRISE camera holds information about the topography of Mars surface. There are hundreds of high-resolution images of this type. This gives the opportunity to create different studies in 3D. In this film I have chosen some locations and processed the images into panning video clips. There is a feeling that you are flying above Mars looking down watching interesting locations on the planet. And there are really great places on Mars! I would love to see images taken by a landscape photographer on Mars, especially from the polar regions. But I’m afraid I won’t see that kind of images during my lifetime.

Captured with Perseverance’s next-generation Mastcam-Z camera on April 2, the 397th Martian day, or sol, of the mission, the eclipse lasted a little over 40 seconds — much shorter than a typical solar eclipse involving Earth’s Moon. (Phobos is about 157 times smaller than Earth’s Moon. Mars’ other moon, Deimos, is even smaller.)

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover carries two microphones which are directly recording sounds on the Red Planet, including the Ingenuity helicopter and the rover itself at work. For the very first time, these audio recordings offer a new way to experience the planet.

Earth and Mars have different atmospheres, which affects the way sound is heard. Justin Maki, a scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Nina Lanza, a scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, explain some of the notable audio recorded on Mars in this video.

This set of sounds from the surface of Mars were recorded by the microphone on the side of NASA’s Perseverance Rover on February 20, 2021. In the first set, sounds from the rover itself dominate. In the second set, the sound was filtered to make sounds from Mars more audible. You can hear a little wind in the second set.

This is the first time a Mars rover has been equipped with a microphone. The images in this video were taken by Perseverance’s Navigation Cameras, or Navcams, on the same day as the microphone sounds, Feb. 20, 2021.

Im Januar 2004 landete der Rover „Opportunity“ auf dem Mars und seitdem erkundete der Roboter nach seinen Möglichkeiten den roten Planeten. Eigentlich war eine garantierte Einsatzdauer von 90 Tagen angedacht. Es wurden über 14 Jahre daraus. Im Juni 2018 ging der Kontakt zu „Opportunity“ infolge eines Staubsturms verloren. Jetzt hat die NASA den Bot endgültig aufgegeben. In seiner Einsatzzeit legte „Opportunity“ auf dem Mars eine Strecke von 45,16 Kilometern zurück.

Mehr als 800 Versuche unternahm die NASA, um wieder Kontakt zu ihrem sechsrädrigen Roboter herzustellen, schrieb NASA-Administrator Jim Bridenstine auf Twitter – doch alle blieben sie vergeblich. Darum erklärte die Behörde nun offiziell das Ende der Mission.

Listen to Martian wind blow across NASA’s InSight lander. The spacecraft’s seismometer and air pressure sensor picked up vibrations from 10-15 mph (16-24 kph) winds as they blew across Mars’ Elysium Planitia on Dec. 1, 2018.

The seismometer readings are in the range of human hearing, but are nearly all bass and difficult to hear on laptop speakers and mobile devices. We provide the original audio and a version pitched up by two octaves to make them audible on mobile devices. Playback is suggested on a sound system with a subwoofer or through headphones. Readings from the air pressure sensor have been sped up by a factor of 100 times to make them audible. For full-length uncompressed .wav files, visit NASA.gov/sounds.

Mit Hilfe eines in Frankreich gebauten Seismometers wollen sie Marsbeben aufzeichnen. Diese können durch geologische Prozesse im Inneren ausgelöst werden, aber auch durch den Einschlag von Meteoriten. Die Bebenwellen wiederum verraten den Forschern, wie der Planet im Inneren aussieht: Wie groß ist der Kern? Und ist er flüssig wie der unserer Erde? Wie dick sind Kruste und Mantel des Mars? Warum gibt es dort keine Plattentektonik?

Doch nicht nir dort wurde so ein Ding entdeckt: Der Zwergenplanet Ceres, der sich im Asteroidengürtel befindet, beherbergt auch eine Pyramide. Diese ist wohl bis zu 5 Kilometer hoch. Hat schon jemand Herr von Däniken informiert? Pöhöhöhö!

Normally, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has its cameras fixed on the surface of the Moon. But on May 24, 2014, flight engineers directed the spacecraft to turn back for a quick look at Earth and one of our closest planetary neighbors—Mars.

When the spacecraft’s LROC camera captured this image, Earth was about 376,687 kilometers (234,062 miles) away from LRO and Mars was 112.5 million kilometers away. In other words, Mars was about 300 times farther from the Moon than the Earth. (Note: Mars has been contrast-stretched in order to improve its visibility.)
