Wir sehen: einen Schüler mit ADHS, der sich ein Mathe-Video ansieht und im Vergleich dazu, wie er Star Wars sieht. Da liegen nervlich offenbar ganze Welten zwischen. Und das schreibe ich als ausgemachter Trekki.

„That may not seem surprising. After all, weren’t the children absorbed by the sci-fi movie and bored by the math lesson? Not so, [ Mark Rapport, director of the Children’s Learning Clinic at the University of Central Florida] said.That’s just using the outcome to explain the cause,“ he said. „We have shown that what’s really going on is that it depends on the cognitive demands of the task. With the action movie, there’s no thinking involved – you’re just viewing it, using your senses. You don’t have to hold anything in your brain and analyze it. With the math video, they are using their working memory, and in that condition movement helps them to be more focused.“

The takeaway: Parents and teachers of children with ADHD should avoid labeling them as unmotivated slackers when they’re working on tasks that require working memory and cognitive processing, researchers said.

Das Pi-Bike ist ein Fahrrad aus Carbon in Form eines Pi (π) Symbols. Martijn Koomen und Tadas Maksimovas schufen das Design und fertigten ein voll funktionsfähiges Fahrrad auf der Basis von π. Klar, dass man sich da irgendwie Einstein mit aufs Rad geholt hat.

Is it possible to wrap the cube with a 3×3 piece of paper below it? Handling of the paper is subject to two conditions:

1. The paper may be only cut or folded along the crease lines.
2. The cutting should not cause pieces to separate.

Gute Frage. Und ich war in Geometrie damals immer einer der besten.

Wenn man das Papier zerschnippeln könnte, wäre die Frage keine schwierige. Was aber, wenn das Papier zum Umwickeln am Stück bleiben soll? Schwierige Frage.

Mathematisch bin ich da echt raus und wahrscheinlich kommt gleich wieder wer und erzählt, dass das optisch nicht auf die Mathematik der Fibonacci-Folge passen würde, was mir aber egal ist. Denn, rein optisch betrachtet, könnte ich hier stundenlang bei zusehen.

Ich habe mir nie Gedanken darüber gemacht, wie die mathematische Funktion einer (Gummi-)Ente aussehen könnte. Andere taten das wohl und so hat Wolfram-Alpha die Funktion einer Ente, die aussieht als könnte sie eine aus Gummi sein: What exactly is the function of a rubber duck? Optisch überzeugt das, mathematisch bin ich da sowas von raus.

Ich könnte jetzt, Frau Fikete, meine alte Lehrerin und mit ihr den wahrscheinlich größten Mahtenerd dieses Planeten fragen, fürchte aber, sie lebt nicht mehr.
