Ich würde das Verhalten des Mannes an dieser Stelle gerne schlicht zusammenfassen: Trottel. Und das obwohl bei dem Video gar nicht ganz so genau klar wird, was der Panda von dem Eindringling wollte. Sich darüber beschweren? Ihn attackieren? Den Tüpen zu Boden pandan? Ich weiß es nicht.

In Datong, China, bauen sie einen Solarpark, der die Form eines Pandas haben wird – und das gefällt mir als Panda-Liebhaber außerordentlich gut.

Who says solar panel installations can’t be adorable? The Panda Power Plant in Datong, China is shaped like the country’s treasured animal – and the first phase offers 50 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. Panda Green Energy installed the array under an agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to advocate for renewable energy. The first phase of the giant panda solar station was just connected to the grid.

Gute Nachrichten von den der mir liebsten Lieblingstiere: Großer Panda nicht mehr vom Aussterben bedroht. Er wurde von der Roten Liste gestrichen.

Dies wurde auf einer Konferenz der Weltnaturschutzunion (IUCN) in Honolulu verkündet. Die Experten führen den Erfolg auf die Aufforstung von Bambuswäldern in China sowie die Leihgabe von Pandas zur Fortpflanzung an Zoos zurück. Nach jüngsten Schätzungen leben derzeit 1864 Pandabären in freier Wildbahn. In den 1980er Jahren, zum Tiefpunkt der Panda-Zahlen, waren es weniger als 1000 Tiere.

Aber: Mit dem Östlichen Gorilla (Gorilla beringei) haben die Artenschützer nun auch den größten Menschenaffen auf die Rote Liste aufgenommen. Diese sind demnach ernsthaft in ihrer Existenz bedroht.

Our giant panda cubs‘ eyes are now partially open! This milestone can take place anywhere between six to eight weeks of age. Their eyes are sensitive to both light and dark, however they cannot yet see clearly. Their vocalizations are also changing and becoming stronger each day. Both cubs are now over 2,000 grams and they average 48 centimetres in length from the tip of their head to tip of their tail!

WWF Panda Font Project

Der WWF Japan will mit dem Panda Font Project darauf aufmerksam machen, dass weltweit nur noch 1864 Pandas in freier Wildbahn leben und sie somit fast ausgestorben sind. Ob das gelingt, weiß ich nicht, aber ein Panda Font wollte ich ja schon immer mal haben (ohne das zu wissen). Bisher lässt sich allerdings keine downloadbare Version davon finden.

A panda-themed font has been created by WWF Japan to raise awareness and encourage donations for their panda fund-raising campaign. Each character features a stylized panda head, and was designed together with Ogilvy & Mather Japan.

According to the WWF, giant pandas are under severe threat from humans and are considered endangered. Only 1,864 of them exist in the wild. Using this font will help raise awareness of this sad fact and can make an impact on conservation efforts.

Der erste Schnee für Panda Bao Bao

Ich glaube, Pandas mögen Schnee. Immer wenn ich welche im Schnee sehe, tollen die da so rum und scheinen so rein gar kein Problem damit zu haben. So wie Bao Bao, der im Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC, vorgestern seinen ersten Schnee aufs Fell bekam.

As the year’s first blanket of snow coated the Washington, D.C. area today, giant panda Bao Bao spent much of the morning playing in it for the very first time. The sixteen month-old panda cub tumbled down the hill in her outdoor enclosure, climbed trees and pounced on her mother Mei Xiang. Our great cats, seals and wolves also enjoyed the wintry weather.
