I applied my „cursed“ recipe to Pyramid Song and combined it with the old Betty Boop cartoon Poor Cinderella. But here is the strange part. With this specific video, YouTube automatically generated a transcript (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t) over the reversed and pitch shifted version of the song. And surprisingly, it showed no more or less that Thom is seemingly singing “Jesus is my God” in Russian. Any Slavic speaker of any Slavic language would understand it.

I know about The Wizard of Oz theory, and during those Kid A and Amnesiac sessions they were heavily experimenting with reversed recordings (we all know how Like Spinning Plates was made), so this finding is quite intriguing to me.

Also, black-eyed angels appear in the video, and that was not my intention when I created it.

Es sei denn ihr vertont damit Lobhudeleien auf rechte Parteien und/oder die Nutztierausbeutunnghaltung. Das hat er ausdrücklich untersagt. Klar. Jetzt auch als Multitrack-Spuren mit BPM-Angaben. Es wirkt, als ob alles nur noch aus Neuverfilmungen, Remixen, Sequels und Prequels bereits bekannter Filme, Hits und Trends besteht. „Tracks“ geht auf Schatzsuche und sucht zwischen Marktmechanismen, begrenzten Horizonten und Algorithmen nach der Antwort auf die Frage: Sind wir am Ende der Kunst?

TikTok, Memes, Kino, AI, Kunst – Eigentlich jede kulturelle und technische Errungenschaft ist ein Remix. So zumindest sieht es Kirby Ferguson. Der Filmemacher und Redner wurde mit seiner Web-Serie „Everything is a Remix“ weltbekannt. Ihm zufolge basiert alles Neue auf bereits Existierendem – Alles ist ein Remix.
Und tatsächlich – wer sich im Moment in der kulturellen Welt umschaut, wird schnell merken, dass zur Zeit sehr viel bereits Bekanntes neu aufgewärmt wird. Die erfolgreichsten Kinofilme der letzten 10 Jahre sind beinahe ausschließlich Prequels, Sequels oder Neuverfilmungen. Die Grundfunktionen von TikTok, einem der erfolgreichsten sozialen Netzwerke, basieren auf dem Remixen und die erfolgreichsten TikTok Hits sind zum größten Teil Remixes bekannter Hits.
„Tracks“ holt zum Rundumschlag aus und spricht mit Künstler*innen aus Film, bildender Kunst und Musik, um zu klären: Sind wir am Ende der Kunst?
