Laut den Modellen müsste die Königskobra-Art am ehesten im Landesinneren von Goa, vorwiegend in Waldgebieten und in der Nähe von Flüssen und Bächen anzutreffen sein. Die Fundorte in der Nähe der Bahnanlagen seien den Angaben zufolge deutlich weniger geeignet für die Art, weil sie typischerweise trockener seien, weniger Beutetiere und weniger Vegetation als Deckung böten.

The huge anaconda measures 26ft-long, weighs 440lbs and its head is the same size as a human’s.

The Northern Green Anaconda was found by TV wildlife presenter, Professor Freek Vonk, and is as thick as a car tyre.

Twelve-year-old Rosie Wightman was peering in the bushes of her backyard when she noticed a large snake was about to eat her pet named MaxiBon.

That’s when Rosie grabbed the python and began swinging it around to loosen the snake’s grip on her guinea pig.

Her father says she was screaming the whole time during the terrifying encounter.

The video starts with a snake catcher trying to remove a giant serpent from the roof. However, several seconds into the clip, the snake falls through the ceiling and isn’t alone. Two huge serpents were dangling from the leftover ceiling before managing to slither back into the roof.

Schon wieder so eine Nachricht. Im zentralindischen Distrikt Jashpur hat ein achtjähriger Junge namens Deepak am Anfang der Woche im Garten gespielt als er von einer Kobra gebissen wurde. Das Reptil wickelte sich in dem Zuge um den Arm des Jungen, woraufhin er versuchte es abzuschütteln, was nicht gelang. Darauf hin biss er die Schlange zweimal und tötete sie so.

„Deepak didn’t show any symptoms and recovered fast owing to the dry bite when the poisonous snake strikes but no venom is released. Such snakebites are painful and may show only local symptoms around the area of bite,“ explained Qaiser Hussain, snake expert[…]

Letzte Woche hat eine Schlange in Bingol, Türkei, ein zweijähriges Mädchen in ihre Lippen gebissen. Das Mädchen bis biss dann zurück. Kurz darauf tötete ein Nachbar das Tier, von dem nicht klar ist, ob es sich um ein giftiges Exemplar handelte. Das Mädchen wurde in einem Krankenhaus behandelt und ihr geht es wieder gut.

The neighbours found the little girl had a 50cm (20 inch) snake clamped in her mouth, together with a painful-looking bite mark on her lower lip.

According to local media reports the neighbour killed the snake, performed first aid on the girl and called paramedics.

In Aschaf­fen­bur­g hat ein Tüp am Wochenende versucht, mit einem Kö­n­igs­py­thon auf das Geländes des Kommz Fes­ti­val zu kommen und wurde an der Tür abgewiesen. Klar! Schlangen haben auf einem Festival halt auch nichts zu suchen. War dem wohl egal und er hat sich dennoch irgendwie samt der Schlange Zugang auf das Gelände verschafft. Blöd: Der Python war noch da, als der Mensch, der ihn dort mit hingenommen hatte, schon wieder weg war und wurde mittlerweile im Tierheim Aschaffenburg abgegeben. Nach dem Mann wird gesucht.

Ein Königspython müsse bei Temperaturen zwischen 28 und 30 Grad Celsius gehalten werden, weshalb er unterkühlt abgegeben wurde. Der Schlange gehe es trotz Unterkühlung gut und sie werde nun langsam wieder auf ihre Normaltemperatur erwärmt. Laut Kneisel sollte es dem Besitzer nicht gestattet sein, das Tier weiter zu halten, denn dieser hat durch die Mitnahme auf das Festival klar gegen den Tierschutz verstoßen.

Ein 47-jähriger Niederländer wurde im Urlaub in Südafrika von einer Schnauzenkobra in den Sacxk gebissen, während er auf dem Klo saß (NSFW). Er erlitt eine „Skrotalnekrose“ und musste längerfristig behandelt werden. „In Ländern, die für ihre Schlangenpopulation berüchtigt sind, spülen Sie immer die Toilette, bevor Sie sich hinsetzen“ oder reisen sie woanders hin.

A 47-year-old man received a snouted cobra (Naja annulifera) snake bite to his genitals while on holiday in South Africa. His penis and scrotum were noted to be swollen, deep purple in color, and painful on hospital admission. Scrotal necrosis was diagnosed, and he received multiple doses of a non-specific snake venom antiserum and broad-spectrum antibiotics. Although no neurological sequelae developed, he did require hemodialysis due to acute kidney injury. After stabilizing, he was repatriated to the Netherlands for further treatment and has since made a full recovery.

Im Nordwesten Englands ist ein Mann mit einem lebendiger Schlange um Hals und Mund in einem Bus unterwegs gewesen. Mitreisende hätten von weitem betrachtet zunächst gedacht, der Fahrgast trage einen farbenprächtigen Mund-Nasen-Schutz. Bei genauerem Hinsehen stellte man jedoch fest, dass das Schlangenmuster von einer lebendigen Schlange stammte, die der Herr mit sich umhertrug. Eine Maske trug er hingegen nicht.

Ein Sprecher der Nahverkehrsbetriebe für den Großraum Manchester stellte daraufhin fest, dass eine Schlange keinen adäquaten Mund-Nasen-Schutz darstellt. Wer hätte das ahnen können?

Auf Borneo gibt es über 160 Schlangenarten, von denen einige eine Bedrohung für die Gesundheit von Orang-Utans darstellen. Aus diesem Grund bekommen die Waisenkinder der Orang-Utan Jungle School einen Crashkurs in Schlangenvermeidung. So sind sie konditioniert, wenn sie später in freier Wildbahn mal auf eine Schlange treffen. Das scheint zu funktionieren.

In Australien haben sie neulich eine Schlange gefunden, die drei funktionstüchtige Augen hatte. Mittlerweile ist das Jungtier verstorben. Drei Augen hatte es trotzdem.

Our Rangers found a three-eyed snake on the Arnhem Highway near Humpty Doo just out of Darwin. It was a juvenile, approximately 40cm long.

The snake is peculiar as an x-ray revealed it was not two separate heads forged together, rather it appeared to be one skull with an additional eye socket and three functioning eyes.

It was generally agreed that the eye likely developed very early during the embryonic stage of development. It is extremely unlikely that this is from environmental factors and is almost certainly a natural occurrence as malformed reptiles are relatively common.

A research paper called ninjarat.org spent three months following kangaroo rats through the Sonoran Desert outside Yuma, Arizona, to capture the incredible videos.

The lightning fast rodent has to have incredible reflexes as it dodges the onslaughts of potentially poisonous bites and was filmed at 500 frames per second to be able to view it all.

Leaping into the air, the kangaroo rat barely avoids the mouth and teeth of the species sidewinder rattlesnakes.

Texas homeowners thought there were a few snakes under their home, but a snake removal company soon recorded video of their hours-long work to remove 45 rattlesnakes from under the house.

Der Python, den sie Nike getauft haben, wurde zur Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation gebracht, wo sie ihn von den Blutsaugern befreit haben. Seit dem 12. Januar ist Nike offiziell zeckenfrei, fühlt sich allerdings ob Blutmangels immer noch nicht ganz wohl.

A snake that was recently captured near a suburban home in Queensland, Australia, was covered with hundreds upon hundreds of ticks. So many of the bloodsucking parasites clung to the snake that the unfortunate reptile looked like it was wearing a second coat of living scales. […]

Harrison brought the snake to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation in Queensland, where 511 ticks were removed from the python’s body. The snake, dubbed Nike, was finally pronounced tick-free on Jan. 12, but was still „very unwell“ with anemia, hospital representatives wrote on Facebook.

Before his visit to the hospital, Nike was in a bad way. Clusters of ticks studded the python’s head and body; some were small and flattened, while others were swollen and bloated with blood. It was a parasitic infestation the likes of which Harrison had never seen in 26 years of snake catching, according to the Facebook post.
