Australischen Behörden warnen Einheimische, sich von mysteriösem Metallobjekt am Strand fernzuhalten

In der Nähe von Green Head in Westaustralien wurde ein mysteriöses Gebilde aus Metall an den Strand gespült, von dem man noch nicht ganz so genau weiß, was das wohl sein könnte. Auch deshalb haben die australischen Behörden die Einheimischen darum gebeten, dem Ding nicht zu nahe zu kommen. 155 Meilen nördlich von Perth lag das Teil, von dem vermutet wird, dass es möglicherweise ein Treibstofftank einer Rakete ist, der irgendwann in den letzten 12 Monaten in den Indischen Ozean gefallen sei. Na zum Glück ist das keinem auf den Kopf gefallen! Jedenfalls scheint es, als würden die Einheimischen den Ratschlägen nicht sonderlich viel Beachtung schenken.

Residents visited the site on Saturday night to see the cylinder, the ABC reported, with one local describing it as a „great social evening“.

„It was a lovely, still night, the kids were digging sand castles around it,“ he told the ABC.

Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas said the item was possibly a fuel tank from a rocket that had fallen into the Indian Ocean at some stage in the past 12 months.

Mit dem SpaceX‘ Starship SN10 hat eine SpaceX Mission mal wieder eine Landung geschafft. Kurz darauf ist das Ding dann trotzdem explodiert. Boooom.

SpaceX Starship SN10 prototype launched to an altitude of 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) and landed 6 minutes and 20 seconds after liftoff. Several minutes later the rocket exploded.

Ein Raumschiff ins Kinderzimmer bauen

Vor ein paar Monaten hatte ich hier ein Video in dem Jeff Highsmith zeigt, wie er seinem großen Sohn ein Mission Control Desk ins Kinderzimmer gebaut hat. Mit jeder Menge LEDs und allem Spaß, den man an so einem Tische eben haben kann.

Nun hat Jeff Highsmith allerdings zwei Söhne und was dem einen, dass muss auch dem anderen. Was also liegt da näher, als dem Jüngeren ein Raumschiff in sein Zimmer zu bauen und das mit dem Mission Control Desk im Zimmer des Großen zu verbinden? Richtig! Nichts. Also hat Jeff Highsmith das jetzt einfach mal gemacht.

When I was building the Mission Control Desk for my older son’s room, it became clear that we would also need a spaceship to go with it. Over the last four months, in scraps of time between other roles, I built a spaceship for my younger son’s room. It has a control panel full of interesting displays and whiz-bang space sounds. A joystick controls lights and sounds for the engine and thrusters. The payload bay has a motorized hatch and contains a robot arm that can be remotely operated over video feed to deploy payloads like toy satellites. Headsets provide an audio link between the spacecraft and Mission Control in the other room, so my sons can practice collaborating on their space missions.
