Look Stranger spends the last day of the summer holiday with Cameron MacDonald, a five year old boy from Glenfarclas, near Ballindalloch in the Spey Valley. This charming documentary film captures the carefree spirit of the young boy as he adventures through the idyllic countryside of the Scottish Highlands, assists his father on the family farm and distillery, fishes, rides his toy tractor, and feeds his imaginary cow.

This is a bittersweet moment for Cameron’s parents, as tomorrow his life will change forever – he starts school in the morning.

Make no mistake, this is not a pastime for the timid. A penny farthing stands a good two and a half metres high, which is uncomfortably close to the altitude at which one requires oxygen. Steering the thing is like trying to turn a wardrobe with handlebars, and falling off, which happens frequently, is about as much fun as being thrown from a small horse onto gravel. The machines have no gears, so riders must heave themselves up hills and then hurl themselves down the other side with all the control of a runaway wardrobe.

And yet, there is a peculiar joy in it all. For these enthusiasts, perched aloft like Victorian gentlemen about to cycle into a Punch cartoon, the thrill outweighs the bruises. Against all logic, they are keeping alive one of the most impractical yet oddly wonderful inventions Britain ever produced.

I made them for my brothers — for my older brother, because he was around then and used to go to those raves, and used to make tunes when he was young. I wanted to recapture that lost sound for him.

Cyberia was intended to be a women only venture, providing a space in which women could learn and play with new technologies in their own space. „To be honest, I thought that all the boy nerds would be hooked up at home and they wouldn’t need us. But we had this incredibly fast connection, and they couldn’t wait to use our equipment. Actually we really liked that.“ After its launch, Cyberia soon became popular and settled down to a comfortable half and half, but it did host a weekly women’s night to train in digital skills.

War das Absicht? Sollte damit etwas gesagt werden? Nein, erklärte nun ein Sprecher der deutschen Marine. »Die Musik wurde beim Einlaufen in London gespielt«, bestätigte der Marinesprecher der Nachrichtenagentur dpa. »Die Auswahl obliegt dem Kommandanten und hatte keine tiefere Bewandtnis.«

Die Briten haben es wohl mit Humor genommen.

„This is England“ ist der Pilotfilm zur gleichnamigen britischen Serie, wobei Film und Serie jetzt bei Arte im Stream zu sehen sind. Die Serie spielt im England der Achtziger Jahre unter Margaret Thatcher und thematisiert Jugendliche und ihre Subkultur in der Skinhead-Szene.

Vor dem Hintergrund der Skinhead-Kultur, der Fußballweltmeisterschaft und der Arbeitslosigkeit sucht im England der 1980er-Jahre eine Gruppe Jugendlicher ihren Weg. Ein außergewöhnlicher Bericht über einen Lernprozess, in dem Shane Meadows die Abenteuer von Shaun, dem jungen Helden seines Films „This is England“ (2006), weiterverfolgt.

In the first half of the fourteenth century, London was a bustling metropolis. The population of 80-100,000 people mostly lived within the City Walls, with 7 main gates, 25 wards, and about 110 parishes. Along the Thames, the wharfs and markets saw merchants from Flanders and the Hanse Cities, and the area around Poultry and Bank was home to a large financial industry with bankers from Florence and elsewhere. Markets around Bishopsgate, along Cheapside offered fish, meat, milk, bread and other daily goods. London was also famous for its luxury goods, especially gold, clothes, shoes, spices, weapons and jewellery. Powerful guilds such as the tailors, fishmongers, bakers, and cordwainers dominated local politics, controlled prices, and gave a sense of identity to young people as apprentices. Religious houses were scattered across the city, and St Paul’s Cathedral with its massive spire dominated the skyline.

London coroners’ rolls have survived for nine years between 1300 and 1340. The texts report the findings of the investigative jury. They were summoned when a suspicious, sudden and violent death had occurred. Although the details vary, the summary would usually specify where and when the homicide happened, who was involved, what triggered the event, what weapons were used, and what the nature and dimensions of the wound were.

Cocky pranksters mowed a giant penis onto the famous grounds of the Royal Crescent in Bath, England, where a major coronation party is set to be thrown in just two days.

Residents awoke Thursday to morning wood, with the glaringly obvious penis trimmed into the lush grass overnight, SWNS reports.

It’s unclear if law enforcement is handling the case.

The English game of dwile flonking (also dwyle flunking) is an East Anglian pub sport, involving two teams of twelve players, each taking a turn to dance around the other while attempting to avoid a beer-soaked dwile (cloth) thrown by the non-dancing team.

„Dwile“ is a knitted floor cloth, from the Dutch dweil, meaning „mop“, with the same meaning in East Anglian dialect, and „flonk“ is probably a corruption of flong, an old past tense of fling.

Advertisements painted by hand directly onto the brickwork of buildings were once a common sight in cities, towns and villages across the country. The rise of printed billboards soon led to their decline but many still survive, often faded, clinging to the walls that host them. These ‘Ghostsigns’ provide a window into the past and evidence of the craftsmanship that once went into their production. However, they are disappearing fast, often due to weathering but also as a result of property development and demolition.

In einem Hotel im britischen Cambridge hatte ein Staubsaugroboter keinen Bock mehr auf seinen Job und ist durch eine offene Tür in seine Freiheit gefahren. Dort war er ein paar Stunden unterwegs und wurde einen Tag später unter einer Hecke gefunden. Es nützt halt alle Freiheit der Welt nichts, wenn dein Leben von einem Akku abhängt. Philosophischer wird es heute nicht mehr.

A robot vacuum cleaner made a break for freedom after giving staff the slip at a Travelodge hotel.

The automated cleaner failed to stop at the front door of the hotel in Orchard Park in Cambridge on Thursday, and was still on the loose the following day.

Staff said it just kept going and „could be anywhere“ while well-wishers on social media hoped the vacuum enjoyed its travels, as „it has no natural predators“ in the wild.

It was found under a hedge on Friday.

Am Freitagabend hat in dem nach eigenen Angeben höchstgelegensten Pub Englands, dem „Tan Hill Inn“ im nordenglischen Nationalpark Yorkshire Dales, eine Oasis-Coverband gespielt, was einige Gäste anlockte. Im Laufe des Abends fegte der Sturm „Arwen“ über Großbritannien und sorgte für jede Menge Schnee. Soviel, dass die über 60 Gäste des Pubs den selbigen nicht verlassen konnten und dort alle irgendwie übernachten mussten. Und das gleich zwei Mal hintereinander. Großartig gestört hat sich daran offenbar keiner:
