In this video I build a custom PC but design a new case for it and make it kinetic. This is my gaming computer, editing computer, and everything in between. I have spent the last couple months getting the mechanical engineering portions figured out for this custom PC build since I have no idea what I am doing but wanted to make a really complicated design. I have had the idea for a kinetic computer case for a while and after seeing the one from Cyberpower I was excited to try and design and build my own. This is an Arduino project that is actually pretty simple but the mechanical engineering side is difficult having to work within such a constrained space.

In seiner Werkstatt fertigt er deshalb auch heute noch ab und zu Möbelstücke an, bei denen er keine Schrauben und keine Nägel verwendet. Eine Truhe aus Eichenholz aus dem eigenen Wald ist sein neues Projekt. Klaus Johann setzt beim Bau auf traditionelle Holzverarbeitung.

Alte Verbindungstechniken wie die Schwalbenschwanz-Verbindung sind besonders haltbar. Sie erfordern aber auch ein hohes Maß an handwerklichen Fähigkeiten. Für den Bau der Truhe verwendet der Tischler traditionelle Werkzeuge wie Handsäge, Stechbeitel und Holzhammer. Den gerundeten Deckel bearbeitet der mit Schiffshobel und Ziehklinge. Die Front wird mit Schnitzarbeiten verziert.

You made me create a wooden Game Boy shell. Yes, you made me do it. After I got myself a CNC machine a while back I just made a wooden Game Boy cartridge to get to know the machine, but social media wanted more. So, I made a Game Boy out of walnut wood. You can see the process in the video without much explanation. Fahrradrahmen aus Holz und/oder Bambus sind mittlerweile gut verkaufte Teile, wobei ich mich nie darüber informiert habe, ob die wirklich halten, was sie versprechen, aber womöglich werden sie auch ob der Gedanken an Nachhaltigkeit gebaut und offenbar auch gekauft. Ich habe allerdings noch nie einen Fahrradrahmen gesehen, den sich jemand als Upcycling-Idee aus Skateboards zusammengeleimt und zurechtgefeilt hat. Ben von Woby Design ist genau diesen Weg gegangen und das war offenbar ein recht langer. Und dann sieht das Fixie halt auch noch ziemlich geil aus.

Es gibt wohl mittlerweile so ziemlich nichts mehr aus Holz, das noch nicht aus Paletten gebaut wurde. Das Beste daran vielleicht, der Moment, in dem jemand aus einem alten Schulpult eine neue Palette gebaut hat. Find ich immer noch gut.

Aber Paul Jackman jedenfalls baut aus Palettenholz Skateboards und das klingt erstmal sehr viel unaufwendiger, als es tatsächlich ist, denn das ist ein Haufen Arbeit, den er sich mit 400 – 550 Dollar pro Brett angemessen bezahlen lässt. Wobei ich jetzt nicht weiß, was die Dinger dann tatsächlich aushalten. Aussehen tun sie ziemlich gut.

Wahrscheinlich die beste Handwerksdoku, die ich seit langem gesehen habe. Ziemlich sicher sogar. Boris Ritscher, „Holzverrückter“, Schlagzeuger und Trommelbauer aus Osthofen, hat sich darauf spezialisiert, aus alten Fassdauben, die einst für Weinfässer gemacht wurden, Schlagzeuge zu bauen. Und das in kompletter Handarbeit. Harte Liebe. Wirklich!

Boris Ritscher, Schlagzeuger und Trommelbauer aus Osthofen sieht sich „Upcycler“. Er stellt hochwertige Trommeln aus Altholz her. Am liebsten verarbeitet er Fassdauben von alten Weinfässern.

Ich hab solche Tische nicht. Wenn Besuch kommt, schieben wir einfach die zusammen, die wir haben. Sieht nicht immer geil aus, ist aber pragmatisch.

George Johnson von Johnson Furniture, jedenfalls, hat einen ziemlich schicken runden Tisch entwickelt, der wenn man ihn dreht, mal eben doppelt so viel Gäste zu Sitzplätzen verhilft. Handwerk <3! Man braucht dafür halt nur ziemlich viel Platz.

This was the first expanding circular dining table George made, and as such it has a special place in his heart. The design of the mechanism has been refined since this table was made, with the undercarriage now a perfect circle without the protrusions visible on this model, but the overall concept is the same.

This project was made possible, thanks to an exchange project between 3 woodworkers in Portland Oregon, U.S and 3 in Utrecht The Netherlands. The idea for all involved was to make an object with 2 species. Oregonian Myrtle wood and local harvested Maple combined. The
largest part of inspiration comes from the native tribes in Oregon,and by looking at some old symbols the tribes use(d).
The name ‚continental‘ was inspired by the project itself, and the lines and colors in the wood used.Which i found looking like a map.
The stopper was inspired by where the maple came from, a tree on a childrens playground in Utrecht. It also resembles the merging of the 2 species for me.

Fotos von diesen Tischen, die aus Holz gemacht werden und so aussehen, als würde ein Fluss durch sie fliesen, gibt es dutzende. Bei den meisten dieser Tische wird Resin verwendet, ein Extraktstoff aus dehydrierten Naturharzen, um das Wasser zu simulieren. Sieht gut aus, ist aber handwerklich jetzt gar nicht so überragend.

John Malecki baut solche Tische und anstatt von Resin setzt er leicht blau eingefärbtes Glas zwischen die massiven Walnusshölzer, die er dafür aufschneidet und in passgenaue Form bringt.

So ein Tisch wiegt ein paar Kilo, kostet wahrscheinlich etwas mehr, sieht aber dementsprechend halt auch wirklich sehr geil aus.

Ich habe irgendwann mal aufgeschnappt, dass es fast unmöglich sein soll, eine perfekte Kugel herzustellen. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob das so stimmt, habe das aber auch nie weiter nachgeprüft. Handwerker Frank Howarth jedenfalls hat das jetzt mal versucht und sich mit einem Stück Walnussholz in seine Garage begeben, die Drehbank und die Fräse angeschmissen und versucht einen 8-Ball zu machen. Das Video ist mehr als entspannend und die Murmel am Ende auch sehr gelungen.

I have woodturned an 8 ball from a chunk of walnut that has been kicking around the shop for about a decade. I first turned a sphere from the walnut. I originally was thinking of making it into a Death Star but then we came up with the idea of making it into an 8 ball. I cut the white of the 8 into the walnut sphere on a CNC router. A large part of this project was figuring out how to hold the sphere on the CNC table securely. Then I cut the white of the 8 from a piece of maple to fit into the sphere. I then continued turning the sphere and made the 8 flush with the surface. I used walnut oil for the finish.

Ohne die Nutzung von irgendwelchen maschinellen Werkzeugen hat sich Shawn James eine ordentliche Hütte in einen Wald in Kanada gebaut. Was wohl Monate dauerte, hat er hier in ein Zeitraffer gepackt.

At the beginning of the video, I show a winter drone photo of the cabin in the snow in December. Then I flashback to the first balsam fir tree I cut down with a saw and axe near the cabin. I drag the trees into place and clear the cabin site. All summer, I cut the notches in the logs as I built the cabin up, offsite. Once I was finished notching the logs with a log scribe, saw, axe, adze and wood carving gouge, I loaded up the entire cabin of logs and moved them to my land near Algonquin Park, Ontario Canada.

Malcolm Tibbetts hat gemeinsam mit einem Kumpel für das diesjährige Burning Man Festival eine ziemlich abgefahrene Installation aus Stahl und Holz gebaut. Per Hand. In diesem Video zeigt er den Herstellungsprozess, bei dem mir persönlich das Holz ein wenig zu kurz kommt. Beeindruckend ist das allerdings dennoch alle mal. Abgefahren, was sich aus Holz so machen lässt.

Mathematisch bin ich da echt raus und wahrscheinlich kommt gleich wieder wer und erzählt, dass das optisch nicht auf die Mathematik der Fibonacci-Folge passen würde, was mir aber egal ist. Denn, rein optisch betrachtet, könnte ich hier stundenlang bei zusehen.
