Huzaifah Khaled, Gr\u00fcnder der britischen Hilfsorganisation Action Hunger<\/a>, startete im Januar in Nottingham, England, eine Initiative, die Wohnungslosen den kostenfreien Zugang zu Dingen des allt\u00e4glichen Bedarfs erm\u00f6glicht. Daf\u00fcr bekommen die Bed\u00fcrftigen eine Chip-Karte, mit der sie sich drei Mal t\u00e4glich Gegenst\u00e4nde aus einem dieser Automaten bekommen. Grundlegende aber notwendige Dinge wie Socken, Tampons, Zahnb\u00fcrsten und Wasser werden ihnen so zur Verf\u00fcgung gestellt. Auch Essen, wie frisches Obst, Chips, Sandwiches und Schokolade werden angeboten. Der Inhalt der Automaten kommt als Spenden von lokalen Superm\u00e4rkten, Wohlt\u00e4tigkeitsorganisationen und Gesch\u00e4ften. Einer der beliebtesten Artikel in Nottingham bisher? B\u00fccher. Demn\u00e4chst wird Action Hunger diese Automaten in New York City aufstellen. <\/p>\n

Action Hunger is committed to alleviating poverty and hardship amongst the homeless. We install vending machines that provide free food and clothing in key locations of cities across the United Kingdom \u2014 and beyond.<\/p>\n

The machines dispense water, fresh fruit, energy bars, crisps, chocolate, and sandwiches, as well as socks, sanitary towels, antibacterial lotion, toothbrush and toothpaste combination packs, and books. As a considerable amount of the produce we vend is received from food redistribution organisations, we aim to simultaneously address two major social and environmental issues \u2014 homelessness and food waste. <\/p>\n

Use of the machines is exclusively permitted to those in need, and items can only be vended with the use of a special key card, which our partner organisations in each locality are responsible for disseminating. In order to continue using the key cards, our users must check-in weekly at our partner organisations, as continued engagement with professionals and local support services is instrumental to breaking the cycle of homelessness.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\"\"
