Moby, die mir liebste Nervensäge, fühlt sich mit all dem ganzen Wahnsinn da draußen überfordert und möchte von euch hören, was ihr dagegen tut, ob diesem nicht komplett durchzudrehen. Ich für meinen Teil bin seit einiger Zeit dabei, meinen lange durch die Welt getragenen Optimismus auf eine für alle bessere Welt zu verlieren. Wir sind alle am Arsch und ich fürchte, dass es in naher Zukunft keinen Grund für Optimismus gibt. Im Gegenteil. Kolleginnen von mir haben keine Lust mehr mit mir über die aktuelle Weltlage zu diskutzieren – ich wäre ihnen „zu dystopisch“. Aber was soll ich machen wenn ich mich mit offenen Augen durch diese, unsere Welt bewege? Vielleicht rufe ich unter 909-345-1089 einfach mal bei Moby und frage ihn, was er tut, um in dieser völlig verrückten Welt nicht völlig verrückt zu werden. Oder ich erzähle es ihm, wie es mir so dabei geht. Er wird die Ideen dann sammeln und sie in einem kommenden Podcast teilen.

Am 1. Juni 1999 revolutionierte Moby mit der Veröffentlichung seines fünften Albums „Play“ die Welt der elektronischen Musik. Mit mehr als 12 Millionen verkauften Exemplaren weltweit und zahllosen Zitaten in Film und Fernsehen wurde das Werk zum Soundtrack einer ganzen Generation.

Nach einer Auszeit von über zehn Jahren begibt sich Moby noch einmal auf Europatournee, um das „Play“-Jubiläum gebührend zu feiern – und Geld für den Tierschutz zu sammeln, denn der bekennende Veganer spendet sämtliche Toureinnahmen an Tierschutzorganisationen.

Bei dem einzigen aufgezeichneten Konzert am 21. September lässt es der Gitarrist, DJ und Komponist auf der Bühne des Sportpaleis Antwerpen noch einmal ordentlich krachen – sehr zur Freude seiner alten und neuen Fans. In einem hypnotischen Setup performt der Künstler natürlich sämtliche Hits von „Play“, aber auch Titel aus anderen Alben wie „Go“ (aus „Moby“) oder „Lift Me Up“ (aus „Hotel“).

Moby hat gestern anlässlich des Record Store Days einen Livestream mit einem DJ-Set bespielt. Das ist nicht so ganz mein Sound, aber ich mag den Style im Anzug auf dem Bett sitzend aufzulegen. Vielleicht kann sich das ja auch auf Festivals und in Clubs durchsetzen.

Among the items being sold off are the Roland Jupiter-6 (previously owned by Joey Beltram) used on “almost every early techno record” made by Moby and a 1980s Ibanez guitar that he used as his primary live guitar from 1984 to 1998 and recorded his 1999 album Play with.

Another key item up for sale is the Yamaha SY22 vector synth used to write the first Moby single, 1991’s ‘Go’. The track is a rework of ‘Laura Palmer’s Theme’ from Twin Peaks, and Moby used the synth to replay the theme. He’s also selling a custom Serge Modular, the Roland Juno­-106 used on ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?’, a Harmony Lap Steel Hawaiian-­style slide guitar and even two sombreros worn by Moby and The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne in the music video for ‘The Perfect Life’.

Donald Trump hat ein Problem. Er hätte, wie alle anderen Präsidenten vor ihm auch, zu den Feierlichkeiten zu seiner Amtseinführung gerne große Namen aus dem Musik-Business, die dort für ihn trällern. Allein: irgendwie will sich dafür keiner finden.

Über eine Agentur wurde auch Moby als angefragt, der schon im Wahlkampf so gar kein gutes Haar am designierten Präsidenten ließ. Ganz im Gegenteil. Seine Antwort ist so kurz wie deutlich: „Hahahahaha, wait, Hahahaha, really?“ Nur falls Trump für diesen Gig seine Steuererklärung veröffentlichen würde, würde es Moby noch mal überlegen. Die musikalische Richtung dafür stellt sich Moby dann auch ziemlich eindeutig vor. „Also I would probably play public enemy and stockhausen remixes to entertain the republicans.“

Moby hat vor ein paar Wochen seine Autobiografie „Porcelain“ veröffentlicht. Mittlerweile gibt es diese in gekürzter Version auch als Hörbuch. Gelesen wird diese im Deutschen von Robert Stadlober, ich hör das „mal eben“ bei Spotify. Hier auch bei oder Google Play.

Jetzt hat er in einem Interview mit Channel 4 verlautbaren lassen, wie es ihm damit geht, dass Donald Trump tatsächlich bald Präsident in Amerika werden könnte. Es sucht auf Google nach Lebensalternativen. In Neuseeland.

Irgendwas geht in den Staaten gerade schief. Er weiß nicht genau, woran das liegen könnte, aber er weiß, das dem so ist. Ähnlich geht es mir hier. Jeden Tag aufs Neue.

Moby hat die Tage ein Ambient-Album für umme rausgehauen. „Long Ambients“, für Yoga und so. Oder für die nächste Koch-Session. Und „Long Ambients“ meint in dem Fall wirklich long Ambients mit Tracks von mitunter über 20 Minuten, was in der Summe über 4 Stunden macht. Wahrscheinlich nicht jedermanns Sache, meine aber schon. Weil Ambient und so.

Der Download funzt leider nicht ganz einfach und man muss dafür für $00,00 Carten und Mailadresse und so hinterlassen, aber man kann bis zu diesen Entscheidungen zumindest komplett Streamen – auf Spotify und Apple Music. Ich mach das gerade, und überlege noch, ob ich später carten gehe.

Ich kann mit Mobys Sound schon lange nichts mehr anfangen, die Ambient CD allerdings, die zum Teil seinem 2005er Album „Hotel“ beilag, mochte ich damals sehr. Diese wird nun geremastert ab 16. Dezember zum freien Download auf Mobygratis zur Verfügung stehen.

Moby’s Hotel: Ambient was originally released as an extremely limited bonus disc to 2005′s Hotel album. The CD captures some of Moby’s most sublime and immersive ambient works.

Moby has announced plans to re-release Hotel: Ambient next month with the original tracklist expanded to include previously unreleased efforts. The album has also been fully remastered.
