„TURBULENCE is an 8K HDR Experience video which was entirely shot in a fishtank with metallic paint and inks. All effects were created in camera. I used a custom micro dropping mechanism es well as 4 axis motion control to capture these images on the macro scale. I was experimenting with very thin needles to release tiny drops into the water. On this level of 5x life-size magnification, one can see the single pigment grains travelling through the water and reflecting the light. I observed many forms of turbulences and the illusion of anti-gravity in the fishtank when the feather light pigments changed direction and started to flow from bottom to top. It was a joy to see this and I hope you like it as much as I do.“

Die Slow Mo Guys haben sich ein paar alte Schallplatten genommen, und sie mit Hilfe eines Motors so schnell rotieren lassen, bis die die Dinger regelrecht zerberstet sind. Das ganze haben sie dann in SloMo aufgezeichnet. Natürlich.

Dustin Farrell war in diesem Jahr 30 Tage lang und 20.000 Meilen weit unterwegs, um mit einer High-Speed Kamera Videoaufnahmen von Blitzen zu machen. Die Ergebnisse sind wirklich ziemlich beeindruckend. So sieht man Blitze selten bis nie.

Lightning is like a snowflake. Every bolt is different. I learned that lightning varies greatly in speed. There are some incredible looking bolts that I captured that didn’t make the cut because even at 1000fps they only lasted for one frame during playback. I also captured some lightning that appear computer generated it lasted so long on the screen.

In pursuit of the world’s smallest bird, we’ve come to the backyard of a flamingo pink house in Palpite, Cuba. Ornithologist Christopher Clark has a car full of gear to unload: cameras, sound equipment, a sheer cube-shaped cage. Within minutes of arriving this May morning, Clark is spinning around in circles. He’s trying to follow the path of a bullet with wings as it whizzes from one clump of orange fire bush blossoms to the next. When the hummingbird pauses to draw sugary fuel from the flowers, his wings continue to beat a grayish blur too fast for the human eye to resolve.

„Slow“ marine animals show their secret life under high magnification. Corals and sponges are very mobile creatures, but their motion is only detectable at different time scales compared to ours and requires time lapses to be seen. These animals build coral reefs and play crucial roles in the biosphere, yet we know almost nothing about their daily lives.

To make this little clip I took 150000 shots. Why so many? Because macro photography involves shallow depth of field. To extend it, I used focus stacking. Each frame of the video is actually a stack that consists of 3-12 shots where in-focus areas are merged. Just the intro and last scene are regular real-time footage. One frame required about 10 minutes of processing time (raw conversion + stacking). Unfortunately, the success rate was very low due to copious technical challenges and I spent almost 9 long months just to learn how to make these kinds of videos and understand how to work with these delicate creatures.

Die Leute von Shanks FX und PBS Digital Studios haben sich zusammengetan, Seifenblasenlauge angerührt und die Bubbles dann dabei in Slow Motion gefilmt, wie diese platzen. Dass sie das primär im Dunkeln getan haben, hat sicher visuelle Gründe, ist aber dennoch schade, denn eigentlich ist nur eines noch schöner als Riesenseifenblasen: Riesenseifenblasen im Sonnenlicht nämlich.

Schön auch, dass es hier ein Rezept für die Lauge gibt. Ich habe etliche ausprobiert und bin mittlerweile bei dem fertigen von Conrad, denn bisher konnte mich nichts selbstgemachtes wirklich überzeugen, aber ich probiere das hier mal aus.
