Shlomo, ohne den, so meine These, die amerikanische Popmusik heute womöglich anders klingen würde, hat am Wochenende für einen Essential Mix gesorgt, den zu hören ich mir eigentlich vorgenommen hatte, es dann aber doch irgendwie verpasste. Nun ist dieser Mix im Netz gelandet und für jedermann nachhörbar, was ich hier jetzt gerade mal mache.

Warp Records, eins der wahrscheinlich wichtigsten Label der letzten Jahrzehnte, feiert in diesem Jahr 25 jähriges Bestehen. Aus diesem Anlass haben einige der Label-Protagonisten je einen Mini-Mix gemacht, die dann bei Pete Tongs Essential Mix in einem zweistündigen Warp-Special gespielt wurden. Und das ist ziemlich geil.
Over the weekend, Warp celebrated its 25 year anniversary in grand style with an exclusive Essential Mix on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show. Founded in Sheffield back in 1989 by trio of music enthusiasts Steve Beckett, Robert Gordon and the late Rob Mitchell, the influential British independent label opened up its vaults for the brand-new two-hour session.
Instead of handing over to one selector, this Essential Mix is broken up into mini-mixes from label luminaries Bibio, Nightmares On Wax, Mount Kimbie, Clark, patten and Plaid. The eclectic, 41-track session is a perfect year-end book-end for the tastemaking UK electronic label, which helped launch the careers of leading acts like Autechre, Boards of Canada and Flying Lotus, among many others.
