It’s History erzählt die faszinierende Geschichte von Ein- und Ausgängen des weitläufigen, viel befahrenen U-Bahn-Systems in New York, die über die Jahrzehnte geschlossen und/oder vergessen wurden.

New York City’s subway system has a total of 850 miles of track, thousands of vehicles, and over a billion riders every year. So given all that, it’s no surprise that several subway stations didn’t catch on, leaving behind doors to buildings that were never used or whole entire stations that are now simply forgotten.

New York Subway 1986

Kurzer Blick in die Subway New York Citys im Jahr 1986.

The story: in 1986 I made a round trip through the USA and Canada. The starting point was New York. So I filmed some scenes in Manhattan. And was going in the underground at 43nd St & Timesquare.

After I time a man comes to me and said, he´s a cameraman at ABC and filming at the subway is strictly forbidden without any permission and police is on the other end of the platform. So I was leaving the station, but I had these beautiful pics of the old times in the New York subway. At the same time I recorded the stereo sound with a SONY WM-D6C with two Sennheiser micros in stereo.

Exit 8 bei Steam. Würde ich spielen. Leider nur für Windows.

Radiohead Cover Konzert im U-Bahnhof

Der Musiker Navzad Dabu hat sich in NYC im letzten Jahr abends in die Metropolitan Ave. Subway Station gestellt und ein Radiohead Cover Konzert gespielt. Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass ich dort nicht nur kurz innegehalten und einige Bahnen verpasst hätte, auch wenn er nicht jeden Ton haargenau trifft.

Als U-Bahn-Zugbegleiterin in NYC

Nochmal NYC, aber mit einem ganz anderen Job. Die 51-jährige Natasha Dinnall arbeitet als Zugbegleiterin im viertgrößten U-Bahnnetz der Welt, in New York City. Und offenbar macht sie diesen Job ganz gerne.

Natasha Dinnall, 51, works as a subway conductor in NYC and earns about $86,000 per year. Natasha joined the MTA in 1992 and took her first job with the agency as a property protection agent and later became a station agent, conductor, train operator, and finally a conductor again.

E-Bike auf U-Bahnschiene führt nach Kollision mit U-Bahn zu Explosion

In einer New Yorker Subway-Station hat irgendein Depp letzte Nacht ein E-Bike auf die Schienen geworfen und es dort sich selber überlassen. Das wird ja da nicht alleine hingekommen sein. Jedenfalls fuhr später eine U-Bahn ein und fuhr über des elektrische Rad, was zu einer Explosion führte, wobei darüber diskutiert wird, ob das an der explodierenden Batterie des Gefährtes oder an der Elektroleitung der Bahn gelegen haben könnte. Auf jeden Fall hat es mächtig geknallt und ich würde in so einem Fall nur sehr ungerne in der Bahn sitzen wollen.
