In Berlin Tegel haben sie in einem ehemaligen Supermarkt einen Festsaal aus 1900 freigelegt. Dieser wurde durch den Discounter quasi 60 Jahre lang versteckt. Wie abgefahren.

Geheimnisvoll dürfte er aus dem Halbdunkel auftauchen, richtig ausgeleuchtet scheint er bereit für ein Remake einer Revue aus den Goldenen Zwanzigern – eine Atmosphäre wie im TV-Spektakel „Babylon Berlin“.
Ich wusste bis eben nicht, dass es so etwas wie Käsedrahtschneidergeräte gab oder gibt und habe Cool Again Restoration jetzt trotzdem oder gerade deswegen 25 Minuten lang dabei zugesehen, wie er so ein Dingen restauriert hat.

Im Jahr 1907 meldete Madeleine Ravier ein Patent an, dass sie als „Fahrrad für Tiere“ erfunden hatte. Sie dachte an Esel, Elefanten, Kamele und andere. Ich kann mir die Mechanik, die dahinter stehen soll, gerade nicht so recht vorstellen, aber gut, dass sich das nicht durchgesetzt hat. Wer weiß, was die damit heute bei den Olympischen Spielen treiben würden. Gedacht hat sie sich wohl, den Tieren die Fortbewegung erleichtern zu können.

Letzte Woche hat das MoMa den im Jahr 1902 gedrehten Film „The Flying Train“ auf Youtube geparkt, der an sich schon ziemlich beeindruckend war. Er zeigt Aufnahmen der Schwebebahn, wie diese zu jener Zeit durch Wuppertal fährt.
Der Filmrestaurierungsexperte Denis Shiryaev hat sich das Originalmaterial von damals genommen, es stabilisiert, auf 60 FPS skaliert und koloriert. Und dann sieht das Ganze noch mal beeindruckender aus.

For many years our curators believed our Mutoscope rolls were slightly shrunken 70mm film, but they were actually shot on Biograph’s proprietary 68mm stock. Formats like Biograph’s 68mm and Fox’s 70mm Grandeur are of particular interest to researchers visiting the Film Study Center because the large image area affords stunning visual clarity and quality, especially compared to the more standard 35mm or 16mm stocks.

Abgefahrene Konstruktion, die im Jahr 1905 dafür sorgte, dass zwei Waggons gleichzeitig auf nur einer Schiene fahren konnten. In diesem konkreten Fall hier auf Coney Island in New York. Leider finden sich dazu nur wenige Informationen.
Ein KommentarThe Dreamland Leap Frog railway use to run on 400 feet of track at Dreamland Coney Island back at the turn of the 20th century. I can’t think of any other attempt to make a rail car ride over another like that.
