For our latest mission, we placed a decal (designed in the style of the ubiquitous social distancing circles) that read “stand here for dance party” on the ground in Grand Army Plaza in Manhattan. When unsuspecting New Yorkers and tourists followed instructions and stood on the decal, they soon found themselves surrounded by a 100-person dance party featuring a professional b-boy dance crew and a vintage 1980s boombox.

Ziemliche Wow-Choreografie von Sadeck Waff, die nicht nur zufällig an das Schwarmverhalten von Staren erinnert.
Einen Kommentar hinterlassenSehenswerte Doku über die Diskos in der DDR und ihre DJs, die damals „Schallplattenunterhalter“ genannt wurden und eine offizielle Spielerlaubnisse brauchten. Lief vor ein paar Tagen im mdr und ist dort noch bis März in der Mediathek zu sehen. Ich bin da ja ein bisschen zu jung für, aber so war es wohl, wenn meine Eltern in die Disko gingen.
Zum Ende der DDR gab es mehr als 7.000 offiziell zugelassene DJs, damals Schallplattenunterhalter genannt. Fast alle jugendlichen Ostdeutschen liebten die Disko. Der Film spürt ihrem Lebensgefühl nach.

Wobei mittlerweile nicht mehr ganz klar ist, wie viel davon real und was davon CGI ist. Es bleibt dabei: gleichsam beindruckend wie spooky. Aber lieber tanzende Roboter als militärisch eingesetzte. Klar.
7 KommentareDas Internationale Olympische Komitee hat bekannt gegeben, dass Breakdance ab den Olympischen Spielen 2024 in Paris olympische Disziplin sein wird.
It made its Olympic debut at the 2018 Summer Youth Games in Buenos Aires. The IOC has confirmed it will be staged at a prestigious downtown venue, joining sport climbing and 3-on-3 basketball at Place de la Concorde.
The news was greeted with delight by the British breakdancer Karam Singh. „It’s going to be great for breaking as it gives us more recognition as a sport,“ he said. „And for the Olympics, it will attract young people who may not follow some of the traditional sports.“
While many involved in breaking were happy, some expressed concerns that the sport – which is influenced by a variety of sources such as gymnastics, tap dance, capoeira and kung fu – may lose its authenticity by becoming part of the Olympic movement.

4 KommentareMarta C. González war in den 1960er Jahren Ballerina in New York. Später erkrankte sie an Alzheimer. Im letzten Jahr hat man ihr über Kopfhörer Tchaikovskys „Schwanensee“ vorgespielt. In sich versunken bewegte sie sich dann dazu, wie es die einst von ihr einstudierte Choreografie vorgab. Die Kraft der Musik.
