Superbeeindruckende Fotos und Videoaufnahmen, die der Fotograf Anand Varma in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Ornithologen Christopher Clark für National Geographic gemacht hat.

In pursuit of the world’s smallest bird, we’ve come to the backyard of a flamingo pink house in Palpite, Cuba. Ornithologist Christopher Clark has a car full of gear to unload: cameras, sound equipment, a sheer cube-shaped cage. Within minutes of arriving this May morning, Clark is spinning around in circles. He’s trying to follow the path of a bullet with wings as it whizzes from one clump of orange fire bush blossoms to the next. When the hummingbird pauses to draw sugary fuel from the flowers, his wings continue to beat a grayish blur too fast for the human eye to resolve.

Keine von uns dürfte da jemals so nahe rankommen. Gut, dass uns manche ihn so nahe bringen.

The video started when Mathematician Gerald Eichstaedt took still shots taken by NASA’s Juno spacecraft and spent 60 hours editing them together. As if this wasn’t enough, animator Seán Doran then spent another 12 hours smoothing each frame, all 2,400 of them, resulting in this awe-inspiring tribute to the gas giant. Time well spent.

Verlassene Autokinos

Ich war mein Leben lang noch nie in einem Autokino. Auf Usedom bin ich hin und wieder mal an einem vorbeigefahren, aber hatte nie das Bedürfnis, mich da mal reinzubegeben. Autokinos kenne ich aus Filmen, aus alten Filmen. Dort wurden sie immer als etwas Romantisches gezeigt. Irgendwie aber scheint die Zeit der Autokinos vorbei zu sein.

Die Fotografin Lindsey Rickert war in ihrer Kindheit wohl ziemlich oft in Autokinos. „Autokinos waren ein Eckpfeiler meiner Kindheit. Fangen spielen unter der Leinwand, viel zu viel Popcorn essen, oder, in Betttücher gehüllt, während einer Doppelvorführung einschlafen – Autokinos waren immer etwas Besonderes“, sagt sie. Und weil dem so ist, hat sich Rickert im September 2014 auf einen Roadtrip begeben, der sie 65 Tage lang durch 32 Bundesstaaten 12.000 Meilen zurücklegen lies, um 28 verfallende Autokinos zu fotografieren. Historische Fotos, coloriert von Marina Amaral

Ich mag die Techniken, die Leute nutzen, um alte Schwarz-Weiß-Fotografien zu colorieren. Das macht alte Fotos lebendig, holt die alten Bilder ins Heute. Auch wenn die im Original meistens schon beeindruckend waren.

Marina Amaral, hier ihr beeindruckendes Portfolio, ist eine Meisterin ihres Fachs und belebt mit ihren Photoshop-Skills seit langem schon alte Fotografien. Dieses Video zeigt einen beeindruckenden Querschnitt ihres Schaffens.

Brazilian artist Marina Amaral combines a love of history and a deep set of Photoshop skills to bring historical photographs the colors they might have captured. Much more than just a brushing over with color, Marina begins the process with thorough research, using the archives of the Library of Congress and other resources to create an accurate pallette for each photo. The restorations and colorizations can take upwards of a month each, going through the image pixel-by-pixel.

Girl Skate Board hat gerade eine Serie von Brettern am Start, die mit Fotografien des Mitinhabers und Oscar-Gewinners Spike Jonze bedruckt wurden. Unter den Brettern dabei: Björk, Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth und Nirvana. Ich würde mich für eins mit Björk entscheiden, wenn ich müsste. Natürlich.

μcapsmic hat ein paar bewegte Makroaufnahmen von Kappen benutzter Graffitikannen gemacht, mit denen ein Mural des Star Childs aus 2001: A Space Odyssey gemalt wurde. Hier die nicht weniger großartigen Fotos in einer Serie.

Used and naturally clogged in the most random ways possible, these spray paint caps were once indistinguishable from one another to the human eye and untouched by the human hand in the making.
Now, each of them is considered to be small-scale models of the Universe that they created it.
The first part showed here is a selection of six clogged spray paint caps that were used to create the stellar mural „StarChild (Genesis)“.

You’re contemplating the scale of the sprayed Universe.
The closer you look, the faster you get absorbed by its black hole.
