Fluid Art Machine: Emitter

EMITTER is an experimental fluid art film which was created with a semi-automatic paint drop system. Since the beginning of my career, I exlcusively focused on chemical reactions and fluid motion on the macro and micro scale. But over time, I developed several visual methods on bigger canvases to create alive paintings which unfold over a longer period of time. To achive this, I apply a thick base layer of paint and then start to add other colors with droppers or by pouring. As the amount of paint is higher than what the canvas is able to absorb, the paint drops down from all edges of the canvas and onto my desk below. What I noticed for years is, that the constant dropping leads to fascinating and complex colors layers one cannot create by hand. I started to capture what was happening out of frame instead of focusing on the color flow on canvas and collected footage over time.

LEGO Sand Art Machine

I made a 100% Working LEGO® Sand Art Machine, and you’ll love it! Some really special mechanisms and parts go into making a sand art machine, especially one made out of LEGO® parts! Some awesome metal parts from metal-technic-parts.com are included in this machine.

Reparatur? Umbau?
In der Ausstellung „Echo Tektur“, die seit 6. Oktober 2023 im Salzhaus der Burg Beeskow zu…

Kinetische Wandkunst

Wie großartig bitte ist das denn?

Crafted from wood this device has two disks, each with a pattern of curved spokes that can rotate at different rates and direction to produce interesting illusions of motion via moiré interference effects. A ribbon spring drives an ingenious mechanism that uses ratchets (and the rotational momentum of the disks) to create the various visual modes- a half rotation of the disks will result in 20+ minutes of motion. With a full loading of the spring hours of motion will ensue. Another amazing creation by artist and designer William Le.

Kreis Tandem

I built this circular bike as an undergrad at UCSB. Twenty years later, as an Artist in Residence at Olin College of Engineering I brought it out for Olins Fall Gathering celebration so a new generation can ride.

The title emerged from a conversation I had with my professor at the time about my disappointment in learning that a circular bike was not a wholly original idea. I came to it honestly, but my professor was able to point to a few artists who had created similar things in the past. I’m fact, I learned that as early as the 1900’s people were making ‘velocipede carousels.’

Making this circular bike taught me a lot. I learned to weld, and how to fix bikes and most importantly I learned it’s not so important to be 100% original, in fact it’s impossible. We walk the same paths, we explore the same themes, we make the same mistakes and we relive the same histories. This is not the first circular bike, and it won’t be the last, and there is no best, just variations on an idea.

Irgendwie charmant.

Online ANSI/ASCII art Archive

We recognize the legacy and the importance of the original ANSI/ASCII art archive. In the recent years there has been a (modest) revival of the art form. Sixteencolors.net certainly deserves its honourable place in history and should receive proper credit for everything it and its creators have achieved, despite the state of the site right now. But that also means there was a gap to fill. We just jumped in and the name chosen should be seen as a tribute to the original site.
