Nachbar ruft die Polizei, weil Papagei „Rambo“ im Garten ziemlich laut Welle macht

Lake Worth Beach, Florida, USA: der Herr hier schraubt an den Rädern seines Autos rum und hat dabei seinen 40-jährigen Papagei namens „Rambo“ mit in der Garten genommen. So ein Vogel braucht ja auch mal frische Luft.

Und dann macht der an dieser halt so dermaßen Alarm, dass irgendein Nachbar die Cops rief. Die stellen dann fest, dass dort offenbar niemand in Not ist. Außer Rambo vielleicht, der sich so anhört, als wäre er das.

I was changing the brakes on my wife’s car and had my 40-year-old parrot, Rambo, on his outside perch where he sings and talks. Sometime later four police officers showed up saying a neighbor called because she heard a woman screaming for help. I promptly introduced the officers to Rambo and we all had a good laugh. Afterward, I also introduced Rambo to the neighbor who called in the screaming. She too had a good laugh. Sometimes Rambo yells ‚help, help, let me out‘. Something I taught him when I was a kid and Rambo lived in a cage.

Der Welt lautester Vogel

Ornithologen haben festgestellt, dass weiße Glockenvögel des nördlichen Amazonas den lautesten Paarungsruf von allen Vögeln haben. Der männliche Glockenvogel ruft wenn Weibchen in der Nähe sind und ist bis zu 125 Dezibel laut. Lauter als eine Kettensäge. Klingt zu dem auch noch ziemlich abgefahren.

The mating call also comes with a strange performance. The males turn their back to the female, lower their tail and head, and puff up. “And then all of a sudden, boom,” Podos says — one note comes screeching out, and the bird flips around dramatically to sing the second tone directly into the female’s face. The researchers think this volume might damage the female’s hearing, but maybe it’s a sacrifice she is willing to make for the sake of a good mate…

Species from the Amazon are under intense sexual selection pressures, so it makes sense that two of the loudest birds on record are from the region. Also, the screaming piha (another very loud bird) and white bellbirds are fruit-eaters, and (study coauthor Jeff Podos of University of Massachusetts Amherst) thinks the wide beaks needed for choking down berries could also help project loud calls.

Randnotiz: In Paraguay regte der metallisch klingende Gesang des Vogels die dortigen Musiker zu einem Stück an. „Pajaro Campana“ ist zugleich Titel und der Name des Vogels auf Spanisch.

Polizei in Utrecht verhaftet Vogel

Die Polizei von Utrecht hat einem Vogel Wasser und Brot in eine Zelle gelegt. Das Tier wurde zusammen mit seinem Besitzer bei einem Ladendiebstahl festgenommen.

Der Verdächtige hatte seinen Vogel bei einem Diebstahl dabei. Das Tier saß auf seiner Schulter. Da die Polizei keinen Vogelkäfig hatte, haben sie das kleine Federvieh in eine Zelle gesetzt.

So, als würde der Raubvogel in der Luft stehen, ohne nur ein mal mit den Flügeln zu schlagen.

Bwindi National Park, Uganda:

„While driving across Uganda’s varied landscapes I saw an Auger Buzzard soaring on the updrafts of a steep hillside as it hunted for small reptiles and rodents below. I jumped out of the truck and attempted to video it as it was very co-operative. I took numerous photos and this video clip using my DSLR and was pleased how it turned out. The hawk soars effortlessly. A rare opportunity indeed.
