Einen Kommentar hinterlassenCapturing the sprawling landscape of Cairo through a subset of its youth, director JP Micallef connects with a group of young female skateboarders, drifters and motorbike riders in the Egyptian capital for short film Ask the Girls in Cairo. Finding freedom coasting through the city, yet confronted by the strict gender standards of a traditional, religious society, the film lenses these young women outside the risks that link their experiences – each coming against derogatory remarks and abuse on the city’s streets, and pressure and punishment from family for pursuing their passions.
Meeting Cairo-based Moroccan skateboarder Zineb Koutten via her photography, Micallef reached out to friends and other girls connected by the Cairo scene, gathering an entirely Egyptian cast and crew to work across the project – and music by Egyptian artist Felukah. Shooting on location over two days and witnessing first hand the abuse the girls receive, Ask the Girls in Cairo celebrates the optimism and strength of the young women refusing to bow to expectations, on a visual ride through the city they have made their playground.
Früher habe ich mal Briefmarken gesammelt, die noch irgendwo hier rumliegen müssten. Später waren es Schallplatten, die es irgendwie immer noch sind, auch wenn nicht mehr so ekstatisch, wie das mal der Fall war. Heute sammle ich irgendwie Fahrräder, wobei ich das eigentlich nie wollte – hat sich so ergeben und wenn mehr Platz wäre, hätte ich ganz sicher noch einige mehr davon. Clem Reinkemeyer jedenfalls sammelt Ziegelsteine, wofür es auch mehr Platz als für Briefmarken bedarf. Er hat die größte Ziegelstein-Sammlung der Welt, sagt das Guiness Buch der Weltrekorde.

Der um die Welt reisende Naturfotograf und Filmemacher Iwago Mitsuaki zeigt auf A Cat’s-Eye View of Japan das Beste aus einer umfangreichen Sammlung von Katzenaufnahmen, die er in Japan gemacht hat. Eine Reise durch das Land, die die weniger bekannten Reize und Bräuche der Regionen aus der Sicht von Katzen zeigt. Kann ja nicht falsch sein.
Einen Kommentar hinterlassen Das Robotics and AI Institute zeigt mit dem Ultra Mobile Vehicle ein wendiges kleines Zweirad, das autonom balancieren, fahren und auch hüpfen kann. Das KI-betriebene E-Bike kann dank Reinforcement Learning Sprünge und andere Tricks ausführen. Ich habe mich erst gefragt, wozu genau das brauchbar sein könnte, aber ich glaube Lieferando und Uber eats könnte das auf lange Sicht wohl gefallen. Dem Militär wahrscheinlich auch. Den Radfahrenden und zu Fuß in den Innenstädte unterwegs seienden wohl eher nicht so.
