Ich hatte das letztens schonmal gesehen, wusste aber nicht genau, wohin damit. Jetzt taucht dieses völlig abgefahrene Plattencover des Niederländischen Labels Ekko in voller Schönheit auf Behance auf.

Ekko lässt für jede Hülle der Doppel-LP 1800 Nägel in Holz versenken und dann mit weißem Garn umspannen. Eine Handarbeit mit wahrlich delikatem Ergebnis. Als Kind habe ich auf ähnliche Weise und mit Latex immer Garnsterne für den Weihnachtsbaum gemacht, aber das ist eine andere Geschichte.

Ich habe übrigens keine Ahnung, was genau auf den Platten drauf ist, aber alleine das Cover wäre wohl den Kauf schon wert.

EKKO is a venue in Utrecht (NL) and is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011. And what better way to celebrate this moment than to record all the beautiful music history that is written in EKKO – and also the authenticity and quality that EKKO stands for – with the release of special anniversary vinyl.

Under the name of EKKO RECORDINGS, the venue will release 2 vinyl records containing some of the highlights of the past 25 years. The vinyl comes in two parts: the period from 1986 to 1998 and from 1998 to 2011.

What’s special about this project is that it is both crowdfunded as well as crowdsourced. The vinyl is not only financially made possible by donors, the content is determined by the public and donors as well. Through the EKKO website people can vote on the highlights of these periods. The voice of supporters double-counts and so they have more influence on the final composition.

Alexander Chen hat auf baroque.me Johann Sebastian Bachs „Cello Suite No. 1“ in html5 und Javascript gebaut. Nicht, dass das dadurch besser klingen würde, aber die sowohl Idee als auch die Umsetzung sind schon sehr nerdig.

Baroque.me visualizes the first Prelude from Bach’s Cello Suites. Using the mathematics behind string length and pitch, it came from a simple idea: what if all the notes were drawn as strings? Instead of a stream of classical notation on a page, this interactive project highlights the music’s underlying structure and subtle shifts.

Eigentlich bedarf es dazu nicht vieler Worte, diese Animation bei Osman Khan spricht für sich. Nur soviel: guckt mal auf die letzten 40 Jahre. Krass.
