Die Rostkatze ist eine kleine Katzenart, die mit der Bengalkatze nahe verwandt ist. Sie kommt wildlebend in Indien und dem Inselstaat Sri Lanka vor und dürfte die kleinste Wildkatze der Welt sein.
Für die BBC Serie „Big Cats“ hat man sie im Urwald von Sri Lanka besucht und ein wenig beobachtet.

Ohne die Nutzung von irgendwelchen maschinellen Werkzeugen hat sich Shawn James eine ordentliche Hütte in einen Wald in Kanada gebaut. Was wohl Monate dauerte, hat er hier in ein Zeitraffer gepackt.

At the beginning of the video, I show a winter drone photo of the cabin in the snow in December. Then I flashback to the first balsam fir tree I cut down with a saw and axe near the cabin. I drag the trees into place and clear the cabin site. All summer, I cut the notches in the logs as I built the cabin up, offsite. Once I was finished notching the logs with a log scribe, saw, axe, adze and wood carving gouge, I loaded up the entire cabin of logs and moved them to my land near Algonquin Park, Ontario Canada.

He said: “The series is a project that is really close to my heart. At first people always wonder whether they are paintings or photographs. I try to make the atmosphere very peaceful and the textures and light as natural as possible. People tell me they feel immersed as if they can hear some notes of the music still. I am often asked why the piano but this instrument has been with me since I was very young and as a piano teacher is an integral part of my life today.”

Wenn ihr Puzzle-Freunde und schon länger auf der Suche nach einer neuen Herausforderung sein solltet, versucht euch doch mal an geschredderten Geldscheinen. Martin John Callanan hat das getan und probiert, sich aus einem Beutel geschredderter Fünf-Pfund-Noten der Bank of England eine dieser Noten zu rekonstruieren. Also so gut das eben möglich war. Ob der Schein mit transparentem Klebeband geflickt an einer englischen Kasse durchgehen würde? Ich glaube nicht, aber einen Versuch wäre es wert. Original würde so aussehen.

Krasse Überlebenstechnik, die Alligatoren am Start haben, wenn das Wasser um sie herum gefriert. Sie halten ihre Mäuler aus dem Wasser während dieses darum zu Eis wird. So können sie auch atmen obwohl sie nicht mehr an die Wasseroberfläche auftauchen können. Dann hängen sie da so rum und tätigen eine Art Winterschlaf. So beobachtet im Shallotte River Swamp Park in North Carolina.
The alligators seem to instinctively know when the water is about to freeze, says [George] Howard, who is general manager of [Shallotte River Swamp Park]. They respond by sticking their nose above the surface at just the right moment, allowing the water to freeze around them.
Alligators then enter „a state of brumation, like hibernating.“ Alligators can regulate their body temperature in all sorts of weather, park officials said, and can essentially remain frozen in place until the ice melts.
