Boston Dynamics lässt zwei seiner Roboter mal wieder Parkour laufen

Und es bleibt, wie immer hier, dabei: gleichsam beeindruckend wie spooky. Das sind Roboter, keine Menschen. Ich sag’s nur noch mal dazu.

Parkour is the perfect sandbox for the Atlas team at Boston Dynamics to experiment with new behaviors. In this video our humanoid robots demonstrate their whole-body athletics, maintaining its balance through a variety of rapidly changing, high-energy activities. Through jumps, balance beams, and vaults, we demonstrate how we push Atlas to its limits to discover the next generation of mobility, perception, and athletic intelligence.

Unbekannte malen kilometerlangen Radweg auf eine Kreisstraße in Brandenburg

Gab es so ähnlich 2018 schon mal in Berlin, jetzt auch auf einer Kreisstraße hier um die Ecke. Irgendwelche Leute haben zwischen zwei Ortsteilen der Stadt Kyritz einen mehr als zwei Kilometer langen Radweg auf die Kreisstraße gemalt. Zusätzlich wurde die Straße mit Symbolen und der Botschaft „Liebe ist die Antwort“ bemalt, was ziemlich sehr nach Nena oder so klingt, wobei ich nicht weiß, wie groß ihr Interesse an Radwegen ist, aber lassen wir das. Wenn die Gemeinden keine Radwege schaffen, müssen die Leute halt selber ran. Erlaubt ist das freilich nicht – die Polizei ermittelt wegen „gefährlichen Eingriffs in den Straßenverkehr.

Wie Bowlingkugeln gemacht werden

Ich habe bisher nie darüber nachgedacht, wie Bowlingkugeln hergestellt werden. Aber irgendwie müssen die ja gemacht werden und wenn ich jetzt doch darüber nachdenke, erscheint mir dieser Prozess doch recht interessant.

Bowling was invented around 1860, and bowling balls have gone through quite an evolution since then. See how they’re made by today’s standards with this video.

Doku-Trailer: All the Streets Are Silent

New York in den 1990ern, Skateboarding trifft auf HipHop. Kinostart war im Juli. Ob das Ding auch hierzulande in die Kinos kommen wird, entzieht sich gerade meiner Kenntnis. Sehen würde ich das schon ganz gerne.

The streets of N.Y. might be temporarily silent, but in downtown Manhattan in the early 90’s, they were the site of a dynamic collision between two vibrant subcultures: skateboarding and hip hop. Check out the trailer for the upcoming documentary.

Mal wieder Großartiges Mediennutzungsding der New York Times, die dafür mal eben alle Sounds von Türen schließender und dann anfahrender U-Bahnen der ganzen Welt in einen Kontext bringt: When train doors close, these jingles warn riders to stand clear. Dingdongdidongeldidong.

Ted Green has been collecting the sounds and sights of transit systems for more than a decade. He travels frequently for work, as a civil engineer, and in every city he visits, he rides the mass transit system and films video of the closing doors, replete with the announcements and the telltale chimes — beeps, ding-dongs, jingles and arpeggios that warn riders around the world to stand clear.

“I think the appeal is the simplicity,” Green said. “You wonder, how can there be so many different variations of beeps? And then you listen, and they’re all so different.”

Like many aspects of mass transit systems, door chimes may seem banal, the dull background track to daily commutes. If you listen more closely, though, you’ll notice regional patterns and distinctions.
