Schlagwort: Björk

Björk x Jazz

Björk Guðmundsdóttir x Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar live at Stöð 2 (1991).

As filler material during their coverage of the 1991 Icelandic parliamentary elections, TV station Stöð 2 asked Björk to perform some jazz tunes with Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar off their record Gling-gló. The trio had been asked by Icelandic public radio to record some old Icelandic standards and recruited the singer, who chose the 14 Icelandic songs, as well as a couple of foreign standards. The recording was then released as an album.

Björk and Rosalía are donating all their rights to income generated by this song to the AEGIS non-profit organisation to combat open pen fish farming in Iceland. Their record companies have agreed to do the same. All funds raised will support legal fees for protesters, taking action to stop the development of intensive farms that harm wildlife, deform fish, and pose risks to salmon’s DNA and survival. Immediate action is crucial.

Trailer: Fungi – Web of Life

Join acclaimed British biologist, Dr. Merlin Sheldrake, on a quest to find an incredibly precious blue mushroom, against the backdrop of Tasmania’s ancient Tarkine rainforest. Merlin will show us some the grandest and strangest organisms ever discovered, showcased through jaw-dropping time-lapse cinematography, in a landscape largely unchanged from the time of the dinosaurs. Fungi have important lessons to teach humanity about survival through cooperation. Indeed, these incredible lifeforms may hold the key to solving some of humanity’s most urgent problems. With millions more species to discover, our journey into the secret world of fungi has only just begun.

Björk shows residential recording studio in Spain

Musikgeschichte.

To record in privacy away from media attention, Björk’s tour drummer Trevor Morais offered his residential studio. It’s located on the lower level of a 7-bedroom villa in Marbella(near Málaga), Andalucia, Spain. Björk had originally intended to stay only briefly, but later decided to record the entirety of ‘Homogenic’ there(1997). She made a final trip out of the country before staying in Spain. As she had done since moving to London, Björk returned to Iceland for Christmas. While there, she wrote more new songs for Homogenic, including ‘Jóga’. Before returning to record, she was sidetracked by a two-week worldwide press tour for the promotion of her remix album Telegram, which had just been released.

After returning to the studio in Spain in late January, Björk had intended to produce the album alone but sought collaborators including Dravs, Howie B, Guy Sigsworth and LFO’s Mark Bell. Howie B had worked with Björk on ‘Debut’ and ‘Post’ and Sigsworth had played harpsichord on ‘Post’. Wu-Tang Clan almost contributed to the production of ‘Homogenic’, but were unable due to their production on the album Wu-Tang Forever, which had taken longer than planned. Most of the melodies on the album were created by Björk, who then composed string sections on a Casio keyboard and brought them to programmers who would add rhythmic patterns. Other unorthodox methods of recording were used during the production, including Björk wanting to record outside on the porch and using non-professionals to help with production, such as Rebecca Storey, who was hired as a babysitter but added to the production staff after showing interest in the equipment.

We picked apart the beat of Björk’s Hunter – a true 909 classic programmed by techno pioneer Mark Bell (LFO) that took the iconic drum machine to its limits. Find out what’s so special about this rhythm and how to recreate it in our newest episode of “Drum Patterns Explained”!

DJ Funkshion Tributes – Björk: The Chill-Out Edition & The Dance Edition
