Was sich hart in meiner Birne eingefräst hat: Mein Physiklehrer meinte damals mal zu mir, dass es „bis heute unmöglich“ sei, eine perfekte Kugel machen zu können. Weil Physik halt über dem stehen würde, was Menschen schaffen können – und dazu gehöre halt die perfekte Kugel. Ich habe mein Wissen darüber seitdem nicht mehr wirklich geupdatet und sterbe vielleicht mit der Überzeugung, dass es Menschen nicht möglich ist, eine physikalisch perfekte Kugel erschaffen zu können. Wobei ich beim Billard daran nur wenig Zweifel habe, denn meine Billardkugeln scheinen immer ziemlich perfekt rund zu rollen. Und ich kann nicht viel, aber Billard halt schon ziemlich gut.
Jedenfalls hat My mechanics aus Edelstahl und Messing jetzt einen Eight ball gemacht. Und zeigt das hier ohne der Dazunahme von Musik oder irgendwelchem Gelaber. Und das ist ziemlich großartig. Wahrscheinlich das Beste, was ich seit langem gesehen habe. Und dann kommt dann diese Feile ins Bild und damit die These meines damaligen Physiklehrers ins Bild, der ich immer noch glaube. Aber dennoch eine wirklich ganz großartige Arbeit.
4 KommentareI had this idea since I recently discovered how to easily make balls on the milling machine and lathe. As I currently don’t know what to restore next, I decided to make the 8 ball. It was a very cool little project. Very accurate work was needed to get all six individual pieces fit together with no gaps. The hardest part of this project was filming the last few shots, because it is so super shiny now and reflects everything. I really like how it turned out and it will be a nice decoration piece to look at.
Die Leute von Braille hatten im Jahr 2016 schon ein Skateboard aus Glas gebaut. Das haben sie jetzt wiederholt und es zusätzlich in Eis gepackt. Taugt eher nix, aber irgendwer muss es halt versucht haben.

We mixed roughly 6 plastic cups of plaster powder with about 4-5 cups of water for a good pourable plaster mixture. The exact proportions aren’t super important, just make sure that it isn’t too dry or too thin, err on the side of it being too dry so you don’t have to worry as much about leaks. If you want to make colored chalk add in about a half a plastic cup of tempura paint into the mix before adding the water. Make sure the paint you use is non toxic and washable, so you don’t stain the concrete or harm the environment. Paint marketed towards kids usually meets these standards.

All finished! What a job. It’s taken me just over 1000 man hours to get this unique pod from a aircraft engine nacelle into my new VC10 caravan pod. I love it and can’t wait to use it this year.

Der britische Raumfahrttechniker Steve Jones hat aus einem Turbinen-Strahltriebwerk, allgemeinsprachlich auch Düsentriebwerk, aus dem Jahr 1976 diesen Wohnwagen gezimmert, der durchaus dazu einlädt, ein paar Nächte im selbigen zu verbringen. Finde ich. Sein Projekt so umzusetzen dauerte nicht weniger als sechs Jahre und bedurfte mehr als tausend Stunden Arbeit.
