Ich wusste bis eben nicht, dass Merkins, Schamperücken, mal ein Ding waren oder gar sind, lerne ja aber immer gerne noch dazu. Jedenfalls waren die halt damals so ein Ding, dass es offenbar Verkäufer gab, die sich auf den Handel mit jenen Merkins spezialisiert haben. Und ich möchte bitte nicht über den Bart des Gentleman reden.
The Oxford Companion to the Body dates the origin of the pubic wig to the 1450s. According to the publication, women would shave their pubic hair for personal hygiene and to combat pubic lice. They would then don a merkin. Also, sex workers would wear a merkin to cover up signs of disease, such as syphilis.
