Vor 8 Jahren hatte Jeff diesen Mix schon mal auf Soundcloud geparkt, wo er mittlerweile allerdings nicht mehr verfügbar ist. Nun hat er dieses zeitlose Stück Musik noch mal auf YouTube geladen. Das wird einfach nicht alt und passt mir gerade außerordentlich gut in die Stimmung.

Lärmende Murmelbahn

Jelle Bakker von Jelle’s Marble Runs hat mit „Cacophony“ eine gigantische Murmelbahn gebaut, die ordentlich Krach machen soll. Die Maschine ist mit 2.000 Kugeln und allerlei anderen Effekten ausgestattet, die den Sound noch verstärken.

Finally, after 278 hours of work, I (Jelle) build this Marble Machine mostly from scrap wood and reused materials from older projects (maybe you recognize some parts). It has 2 dumpsters (tipping containers) which holds 1000 and 200 marbles. It has 128 bells and chimes, but also a large number of drums, funnels, springs, nails, wooden sticks and much more. The cabinet of this marble machine functions as a resonance box to improve the sounds of the marbles.

Wenn Schluchten Klang machen: Canyon Groove

Tolle Projekt-Idee, die visuelle Profile von diversen Schluchten zu Soundscapes macht: Canyon Groove.

WHERE THIS CAME FROM
When I saw this photograph, where the magnified microscopic record player needle sits between the vinyl record’s tracks I thought the groove walls looked like canyon walls. They look ridged and layered, and the shape of those walls is the music. I wondered whether it works the other way round. Could you take a real canyon, treat the cross-section as a groove, and use AI to drag a needle through the canyon grooves?
HOW IT WORKSE
ach canyon here is a real elevation profile, rim to rim, measured at 100 points. The floor sets the key. The shape of the walls sets the mood. The width sets how long one pass takes, and the depth sets the echo. Every voice crosses the profile at its own speed, and no two speeds line up. They fall in and out of step, so the music keeps changing. Two minutes in you have heard a piece. Twenty minutes in it still has not repeated.

Ein Pokéball als Schlafzimmer im Wald

Die Inneneinrichtung eher schlicht, aber der drei Meter große Pokéball, eingebettet in die Wälder an einem See in Hokkaido, ist wirklich einladend. Falls ihr dort also mal in der Nähe sein solltet…

Now for the bad news. The Poké Ball room is not available to rent. One-night stays are being awarded as prizes by applying via the Pokémon Sleep X account. Winners are also responsible for their own travel expenses to Hokkaido, but all entries earn a code for in-app items in Pokémon Sleep, if that is any consolation.

Ein kurzes Ratespiel: Echtes Foto oder KI?

Ein Nebeneffekt des ganzen KI-Irrsinns ist ja der, dass manche Ding in der Kunst sehr schnell als KI-generiert abgetan werden, die garantiert nicht durch KI generiert wurden. So fällt die Wertschätzung für Kunst und die diese Schaffenden enorm. Das liegt auch daran, dass sich viele nicht mehr die Zeit nehmen, Gesehenes genau wahrzunehmen und wenn man dann keine Lust hat, sich wirklich damit auseinanderzusetzen oder Gesehenes für nicht alltäglich hält, das als KI abzutun. Fertig, weiter scrollen.

Reality Check setzt genau dort an und präsentiert im Sekundentakt mal echte, mal KI-Bilder und lässt nicht viel Zeit, um darüber zu entscheiden, was eben echt und was KI ist. Meine Quote jedenfalls ist mich für überraschend mau… Da geht er dahin, der Tag.
