VW Käfer in Übergröße

Zwei Kalifornier haben sich einen VW Käfer gebaut, der um 40 Prozent größer ist als das Original. Quasi ein VW Käfer SUV. Nicht, dass die Welt den bräuchte, aber wer’s kann, der kann’s halt auch machen.

A CALIFORNIAN father and son have teamed up to supersize the classic Volkswagen Beetle. The VW enthusiasts upscaled the car by 40%, making it bigger than a Hummer. Scott Tupper, the younger generation of the duo, told Truly how the idea developed. “My dad and I thought it would be nice if we had a Volkswagen that was comfortable and not feel like you’re going to get run over in traffic.” Once the idea was hatched, they went about making the dream into a reality. “We had a 59 Volkswagen convertible, we digitized it, scanned it everywhere, took it apart, and made each part 40% bigger on the computer.” Unsurprisingly, the vehicle has caused a lot of buzz on the roads. “People chase you to try to get up next to it, they almost run you off the road because they’re not looking where they’re going.“

POV: Mit bis zu 75 km/h auf einem Rad eine Küstenstraße runterballern

Mir persönlich geht bei um 50 km/h auf meinem Rennrad schon immer ein bisschen dolle der Stift. Jeder dir nicht bekannte Wurzelbruch im Asphalt könnte einen wochenlangen Krankenhausaufenthalt nach sich ziehen. Wenn du Glück hast. Im schlechtesten Fall auch durchaus Schlimmeres. Ich bremse dann ganz gerne mal. Auch weil die dafür notwendige Konzentration Stress verursacht, sagt mein Arzt.

Dieser Gentleman hier macht das nicht an 50 km/h fest, sondern er ballert mal eben mit bis zu 75 km/h auf seinem Rad eine Küstenstraße in Malibu runter. Und ich fühle ihn ein bisschen. Tsching!

Not the most technical descent but the steep gradient, exposed edge overlooking the ocean, and a couple of tight corners turn it into a spellbinding few minutes. A road you can’t afford a to make mistake on, but it’d be a mistake not to take a trip down.

Zu hoher Zug fährt unter zu tiefer Brücke

Dass es Brücken gibt, unter denen sich regelmäßig dafür zu hohe LKW „aufhängen“, ist hinlänglich bekannt. Dass das aber auch schon mal mit Zügen passiert, ist zumindest mir neu. Das wird nicht billig.
