Ein Concept Design von Hauke Scholz, das es so wahrscheinlich nie wirklich geben wird. Würde in der Praxis auch irgendwie völlig überflüssig sein, denke ich, sieht aber verdammt hübsch aus.

The MusixCube concept design is an innovative music controlling tool created by industrial designer Hauke Scholz at Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design. The design incorporates inspiration from the ever so popular Rubik’s Cube 3-D mechanical puzzle.

MusixCube is hand-held tool designed to work in conjunction with music production software and hardware, the controller is constructed using forty pressure-sensitive OLED-screens. Part of the project’s aim is to get music producers off the computer and enable them to produce music with their hands.

According to Scholz, ”By tilting, turning the single segments and other moves, the user can affect parameters, sequence samples and trigger effects. Additionally, you can also create loops and play sounds which previously have been assigned to the different pads and fx-slots. After arranging some songs, the user can work with at least two cubes for a live performance and to mix their own music.

Ich bekam heute morgen eine Mail in der mich der mir unbekannte Absender auf die Arbeit von Avoka hinweist, die für ihren „Dyskograf“ Papierscheiben auf einen Plattenspieler legen und gemaltes über eine Kamera in Ton umsetzen. Ziemlich kuhles Live Teil für so sekundäre Spielereien, wie ich finde. Geht sicher auch mit anderen Musikstilen, klänge aber dann in der Headline nicht mehr so schön.

Drawing inspiration from traditional record players, French new media production company Avoka has created Dyskograf, an interactive sound installation in which visitors are able to create music with just a pen and piece of paper. Instead of using a needle and a vinyl record, Dyskograf is equipped with a camera and custom-designed software that detects felt-tip pen marks drawn on paper records, each of which will create a different sound depending on their locations and how they are drawn. Since the camera is in a fixed position, the musical sequence is read as a loop and sounds like it would be a perfect fit for an electronic music track.
