Expedition 31 Flight Engineer Don Pettit relayed some information about photographic techniques used to achieve the images: “My star trail images are made by taking a time exposure of about 10 to 15 minutes. However, with modern digital cameras, 30 seconds is about the longest exposure possible, due to electronic detector noise effectively snowing out the image. To achieve the longer exposures I do what many amateur astronomers do. I take multiple 30-second exposures, then ‘stack’ them using imaging software, thus producing the longer exposure.”

Ein von Kristian Ulrich Larsen und Olafur Haraldsson superschön inszeniertes Video, in dem ein Lichtschweif über die Landschaft Islands gleitet und mit Licht beschenkt. Den Text dazu gibt es von keinem Geringeren als Nikola Tesla. Und das nicht grundlos.

The text used for the narration of “Passing Through” is part of a speech Serbian scientist and inventor Nicola Tesla delivered in 1893 at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Though today less known than figures like Edison and Einstein, Tesla was more or less the father of much of our modern technology, since he among other things developed the foundations of the European electrical system based on alternating currents and the principles of wireless radio communication. At the time he was deeply influenced by the Austrian physicist and philosopher Ernst Mach, believing that the world should be conceived as a whole where everything is interconnected influencing each other. And that energy is a force that runs through everything be it inorganic matter, organisms or human consciousness. According to this line of thought every single action has universal consequences, not unlike what the father of modern chaos theory Edward Lorenz in the 1960’s termed ‘the butterfly effect’.

[Update] Hier war bis eben das Bild eines wirklich außerordentlich schönen Tattoos zu sehen. Nach einem Hinweis in den Kommentaren allerdings wurde deutlich, dass der Tätowierer gerne und häufig auch Nazi-Symboliken unter die Haut seiner Kundschaft sticht. Deshalb fliegt das Bild und der dazugehörige Link hier wieder raus. Sorry, aber derartigen Bullshit will ich nicht verbreiten.

Die Macher von Sweatshoppe malten ihre Videos quer durch Europa auf trostlose Wände.

Video painting is a technology the duo developed that allows them to create the illusion that they are painting videos onto walls with electronic paint rollers they built. It works through custom software that they wrote that tracks the position of the paint rollers and projects video wherever they choose to paint, allowing them to explore the relationship between video, mark making and architecture and create live video collages in real time.

Wer noch nicht weiß, was er heute so essen soll, kann sich mal die Koch-Videos von Hugo Alexandre Cruz zu Gemüte führen. Der Fotograf und Hobby-Koch nämlich zeigt jeweils innerhalb einer Minute, wie man sich relativ simpel etwas sehr leckeres zu Essen machen kann. Rezepte sind immer im Video verschachtelt und weil Cruz eben auch Fotograf ist, sehen die Video technisch auch noch ganz fantastisch aus. Klasse.
