Das amerikanische “moth” wird generell mit “Nachtfalter” übersetzt. Alle hier gezeigten Falter gehören nicht zu Familien, deren Vertreter auf deutsch als “Motte” bezeichnet werden.

Alles Schmetterlinge. Die Gruppe der Kleinschmetterlinge (Motten) ist ebenso Überholt wie Großschmetterlinge. Ebenso sind Nacht und Tagfalter kein Taxon zumal die Unterteilung nicht einmal etwas mit Tag und Nacht zu tun hat sondern Fühlern Flügelkopplung und Flügelruhestellung.
Noch einfacher ist es alle als Gliederfüßer (Arthropoda) zu bezeichnen – auch wenn dann keiner mehr weiß ob vom Falter oder Krebs die Rede ist.
