At the Repair Shop, the team resurrect a piece of kit from the 1970s owned by a pioneering music producer.

First through the barn doors is music producer Neal Fraser, aka The Mad Professor. Neal is credited for his pioneering work establishing a music genre in the 70s and 80s known as dub, and he’s brought the very machine he created that distinctive sound with. The electronic sound effect machine was last working back in 1984, and Neal would love to make music with it again.

Mit Großmutters Klavier-Kassetten Musik produzieren

A Last Picture From Voyager hat einige Kassetten, die seine Großmutter einst während ihres Klavierspiels von ihrem Klavierspiel aufgenommen hat. Er hatte dann die tolle Idee, jene Aufnahmen dazu zu nutzen, daraus neue Musik zu produzieren. So richtig Old School mit 4-Spur-Tascam-Rekorder und so. „Emotional Memory“. Voll schön.

When I found an old cassette with some recordings of my grandmother playing the piano, this was first an emotional moment. Few months later, I thought I might create music using some parts of her recordings. Of course and first, I made a tape loop, then thanks to a new piece of gear, the Arturia Microfreak and it’s Sample function added to the V5 firmware, I was able to sample a note from her piano recording and to play with its original sound ….

Eine sehr holprige Zugfahrt – und Musik

Unpünktliche und überfüllte Regios in Deutschland; geschenkt. Die Zugfahrt von Yangon nach Bagan in Myanmar dauert etwa neunzehn Stunden und ist für ihre Unebenheiten berüchtigt, wie man in diesem Clip deutlich sehen kann.

Über den letzten Taschenkompass-Hersteller in Europa

Ich habe als Kind noch mit einem Kompass umzugehen gelernt, weiß ob meines immer bereitem Navis in der Tasche allerdings nicht, ob ich den heute noch ohne weiteres bedienen könnte. Aber: offenbar brauchen manche noch einen Kompass und Norbert Fritz aus dem mittelfränkischen Rednitzhembach ist der letzte Taschenkompass-Hersteller in Europa, der diesen Bedarf bedient.
