Jeden Herbst erscheint in einem Wald in Oregon ein riesiges Smiley-Gesicht 😃

Ja, ich weiß, es gab als Überbleibsel der Nazi-Diktatur mal Ähnliches mit gänzlich anderer Symbolik hier in Brandenburg.

Sehr viel schöner wurde die selbe Verfahrensweise 2011 in einem Wald in Oregon angewandt, weshalb dort jetzt jeden Herbst ein lachender Smilie zwischen Douglasien und Lärchen auftaucht. Das soll wohl auch noch 30-50 Jahre so bleiben. Keep a smile.

In 2011, Hampton Lumber created the design by planting a mix of Douglas fir and Larch during a reforestation of the area. Larch trees are conifers with needles that yellow and drop in autumn, and they make up the body of the face. Douglas fir makes up the eyes and mouth. The smiley face should return each fall for the next 30-50 years, until the trees are ready to be harvested for lumber.

Ausbruch des Volcán de Fuego

Der Volcán de Fuego ist einer der aktivsten Vulkane Guatemalas, wobei große Ausbrüche eher selten, aber dann auch gefährlich sind. Diese Aufnahmen hier zeigen einer der Ausbrüche aus der Nähe und sehen ziemlich spektakulär aus. Natural pyro.

This was taken late evening on Volcán de Fuego in Antigua, Guatemala while on an overnight hike with a guide service. We were allegedly about 200 meters from the top (according to the guides). Rocks from this explosion fell around and behind us. The lava fell about 50 feet from us in places. I was near the back of the group as you can see in the video. I did not realize it at first, but everyone behind me and all the guides took off running. We did not realize how dangerous a position we were in until afterward.

Alte Jeans werden in Handarbeit zu neuen Sonnenbrillen

Eher Designobjekt gepaart mit ordentlich Handwersskills als tatsächlich Recycling mit echtem Nachhaltigkeitsgedanken, aber dennoch am Ende sehr schön, die Sonnenbrillen von Mosevic Eyeware. Jack Spencer, der alle Brillen von Hand fertigt, hat sich auch viele der dafür notwendigen Werkzeuge selbst gebaut. Ein Künstler seines Fachs auf jeden Fall.

In San Francisco klauen Diebe Katalysatoren von Polizeiautos

Ich habe neulich am Rande irgendwo gelesen, dass der Diebstahl von Katalysatoren aus den auf Straßen rumstehender Autos nicht nur in den USA ein Ding ist und dachte so: „Schön blöd, willste morgens dein Auto starten, fehlt der Kat.“

In San Francisco haben Diebe jetzt Katalysatoren von Polizeiautos geklaut, die dabei vor einem Polizeipräsidium standen.

„On September 12, 2022 at approximately 1 p.m., a San Francisco Police Officer discovered a marked police truck parked in the area of 16th Street and De Haro Street had its catalytic converter stolen,“ confirmed the SFPD media relations department. „The officer inspected other police vehicles, and discovered that another marked police truck and two marked police vans also had their catalytic converters stolen.“ […]

„The people engaging in this activity really don’t think much of the police if they think they can steal catalytic converters from the best of us,“ said an SFPD higher-up.

Schallplatte als Gitarren-Pedal

Das neue Album „Skin Walker“ der Garage/Thrash-Band Brother O Brother erscheint in limitierter Auflage auf einer Schallplatte, die gleichzeitig ein Gitarrenpedal ist. Dürfte sich als klassisch genutzter Bodentreter nicht sonderlich eignen, aber die Idee finde ich ganz witzig. Es wird nur 15 Exemplare davon geben.

This unholy innovation comes from pioneering vinyl experimentalists Romanus Records, who have something of track record when it comes to taking the humble long-player places it’s never been before. Romanus filled one LP with razor blades and gunpowder, embedded LEDs in another, and even worked on a limited edition „liquid-filled snowglobe variant“ vinyl edition of the soundtrack of the Bill Murray comedy Scrooged.

Skin Walker will be released as a pair of vinyl LPs, each considerably thickened to house the pedal electronics, with the control knobs positioned on the centre labels. One pedal will offer overdrive/boost, and feature a toggle switch to control two different channels, while the other is a delay pedal, with four settings to create unique combinations of delay.

Berlin bekommt ein 29-Euro-Ticket

Der Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) hat gestern entschieden, dass es dort von Oktober bis Dezember für das Tarifgebiet AB ein 29-Euro-Ticket geben wird. In Brandenburg ändert sich nichts. Vermutlich werden die ÖPNV Preise hier demnächst sogar ansteigen. Ich sag es mal so: Ein 29-Euro-Ticket ist ein Anfang, aber eben nur ein vorübergehender und nur für Berlin. Schön, aber nicht das, was ich als Nachfolge des 9-Euro-Tickets sehen wollte.
