REIFY is a new Brooklyn-based company that transforms sounds–including songs, sound effects, or entire albums–into beautiful 3D-printed abstract sculptures. The sculptures can in turn be transformed back into sound through REIFY’s augmented reality mobile app. The company is currently developing an online platform for the process. REIFY was founded by Allison Wood and is an inaugural member of the NEW INC art, technology, and design incubator at New Museum in New York City.

Steile Kiste.
Could astronauts one day be printing rather than building a base on the Moon? In 2013 ESA, working with industrial partners, proved that 3D printing using lunar material was feasible in principle. Since then, work continues to investigate the technique. The shielding against radiation provided by a 3D-printed block of simulated lunar regolith was measured, providing important inputs for next-stage designs… Soon the Agency

These are 3-D printed sculptures designed to animate when spun under a strobe light. The placement of the appendages is determined by the same method nature uses in pinecones and sunflowers. The rotation speed is synchronized to the strobe so that one flash occurs every time the sculpture turns 137.5º—the golden angle. If you count the number of spirals on any of these sculptures you will find that they are always Fibonacci numbers.
For this video, rather than using a strobe, the camera was set to a very short shutter speed (1/4000 sec) in order to freeze the spinning sculpture.

The dress provides an extension of the wearers intuition: It uses proximity sensors as well as a respiration sensor to both define and protecting the personal space of the wearer. Approach the wearer to aggressively and the mechanical limbs move up to an attack position. Approach the system under calmer circumstance and the dress just might beckon you to come closer with smooth, suggestive gestures.

Einen Kommentar hinterlassenJM Schwartz’s 3D printable T-Rex shower head is just about the best thing I’ve seen all week. It’s a mashup of a T-Rex skull produced by Makerbot Academy and Schwartz’s own shower-head design.
