Gottesanbeterin beißt Männchen bei der Paarung den Kopf ab – das macht kopflos weiter

Es ist hinlänglich bekannt, dass Gottesanbeterin dazu neigen ihren Männchen während der Paarung den Kopf abzuschneiden. Nicht schön, aber eben ganz natürlich. Im Sinne von Natur. Was wohl weniger bekannt sein dürfte: das Männchen ist danach mitunter dennoch in der Lage den „Akt“ weiterzuführen. Kopflos. So zeigt es dieses Video von Deep Look.

As explained in the video, the male’s body is still being controlled by nerves in its abdomen, and “it can still get the job done.”

Biologists refer to this behavior as sexual cannibalism, and the mantis female doesn’t do this out of spite or as some kind of mindlessly random act.

Gottesanbeterin auf der Frontscheibe eines Autos

Neulich in Nagoya, Japan: eine Mantis religiosa saß auf der Frontscheibe eines Autos, das dort über einen Highway fuhr. Das im Auto sitzende Pärchen dachte wohl, die Dame würde derweil das Weite suchen, was sie nicht tat und einen Tanz aufführte. Mantis Dance. Oder so.

„There was a mantis already on the dashboard of our car, we thought he would go elsewhere as the car was put in drive. As we proceeded to drive the mantis started to dance.“
