re:publica 2015: Astronaut Alexander Gerst über Leben und Arbeit auf der ISS

Ich war in diesem Jahr nicht auf der re:publica und habe auch nicht vieles davon im Stream gesehen. Glücklicherweise sind so gut wie alle Sessions auch auf YouTube konserviert und so kann ich mir das für mich Spannendste immer noch ansehen.

So wie diese Session mit ESA-Astronaut Alexander Gerst, der über das Leben und die Arbeit auf der ISS redet. Astronauten faszinieren mich sehr und man trifft so selten welche. Toll!

ESA-Astronaut Alexander Gerst lebte und arbeitete von Mai bis November 2014 im Rahmen seiner „Blue Dot“-Mission auf der Internationalen Raumstation ISS. Als @Astro_Alex begeisterte er viele Menschen mit faszinierenden Fotos und Videos der Erde.

Droste Effect, gif’d

„The Droste effect — known as mise en abyme in art — is the effect of a picture appearing within itself, in a place where a similar picture would realistically be expected to appear. The appearance is recursive: the smaller version contains an even smaller version of the picture, and so on. Only in theory could this go on forever; practically, it continues only as long as the resolution of the picture allows, which is relatively short, since each iteration geometrically reduces the picture’s size. It is a visual example of a strange loop, a self-referential system of instancing which is the cornerstone of fractal geometry.“

Es könnte für diesen Mix am heutigen Tag keinen passenderen Namen geben. Es ist grau, es ist kalt, winding und somit für einen Frühlingstag maximal unpassend. Frei klettern auf dem dem zweithöchsten Gebäude der Welt

Die Wahnsinnigen von On the Roofs haben das 660 Meter hohe Shenzhen Centre bestiegen. Ohne Netz und doppelten Boden.

For more than a year ago we’ve climbed Shanghai Tower certainly not expecting the resonance and the amount of feedback we’ve got. And so, that amount of feedback led us to an idea of making a tradition of roof toping new skyscrapers all around the world. Today’s hero of attention is a new financial center still under construction and is situated in Shenzhen, China. Right now its height is about 660 meters and that makes it the second tallest tower in the world.
