Four tape machines and a cutting lathe – EBS remasters Karajan’s Mahler 6th

Listen to Rainer Maillard and Sidney Claire Meyer of Emil Berliner Studios (EBS) explain how they ran four machines simultaneously in order to remix and cut the manufacturing lacquer directly for this new Original Source Series vinyl release.

Following the release of Mahler’s fifth symphony as part of the Original Source Series, the sixth by the unbeatable duo Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker now follows. Described by the Gramophone Classical Music Guide as ‘a masterly achievement by composer, conductor and orchestra alike,’ this new version was re-mixed and edited by Emil Berliner Studios from the original 8-track tapes, providing a breathtaking listening experience of the highest analogue sound quality.

The audiophile vinyl Original Source Series presents outstanding recordings from the 1970s in a whole new sound quality. For this, the renowned Emil Berliner Studios have remastered and edited the original four- and eight-track tapes in 100% analog quality (AAA) using technologies developed specifically to produce the series. The sonic differences to the original releases are considerable: greater clarity, more subtleties and improvements in frequency response, while at the same time less background noise, distortion and compression allow for an audiophile listening experience like never before.

Pingipung Podcast 172: Lydia Pfefferkorn – Don’t Struggle (If Love Is a Jungle)

Besser kann ein Sonntag gar nicht klingen. Lydia Pfefferkorn mit dem aktuellen Pingipung Podcast. Toll! Ich geh‘ mal dazu kochen.

different formations: as a long-time band member of Jacques Palminger & 440 Hertz, as main vocalist for the five headed band collective Erich Weinert Studioband and as a singer and keyboardist for Paul & The Casiotones. You might know her voice from the song Finsterwalde (Songs For Joy) or some other production of befriended musicians like F.S.Blumm or Mimsy.

Baikal Nomads Mixtape #239 by Xique-Xique

„Dear Baikal Nomads,
I am glad to finally deliver your podcast 🙂 Thank you for your patience !
I’m really happy with the result, it is a very special podcast for me, probably because while making it I ended up finding a lot of what I call super match, those rare and magical combinations of tracks that fit perfectly together from the beginning to the end, and also because I had to dig in many different places to find the right ones, originals, tracks I edited, tracks I encoded from my vinyl collection, a Soulwax track from a cassette, old stuff and new promos… all this mix that create those special vibes and already makes of this podcast one of my favourites.
I hope you like it and that the listeners will too 🙂
Much love from the Brazilian’s forest
Xique-Xique“

David Lynch’s Lasting Impact On Electronic Music

David Lynch wasn’t just a filmmaker—he was also a sonic visionary. His surreal, dreamlike worlds have left an undeniable mark on electronic music, sound design, and experimental composition, inspiring artists from Flying Lotus, Moby, and Burial to Nine Inch Nails, Special Request, Djrum, Leon Vynehall and Daniel Avery.

From the haunting score of Twin Peaks to the industrial drones of Eraserhead, Lynch’s approach to sound was as groundbreaking as his films. His dark, atmospheric soundscapes influenced entire genres of electronic music, ambient, and experimental sound design. Eraserhead’s oppressive, mechanical noise even inspired Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, shaping his approach to industrial music.
