Dance music’s history is a feedback system between culture and circuitry. Each new invention, from the disco subwoofer to today’s neural-driven mastering tools, reshapes sound itself. RSS Disco’s timeline approach celebrates this continuum: a story of machines learning to groove, and humans learning to listen differently through them.
We take you on a trip through music history in a two hour DJ-set. Starting with music from the early 1970s and closing with tracks produced in 2025. Have a dance with us and get a feeling for the changing sound aesthetics, style and fashion the over the decades.
Not a lot of time to cover the sheer endless amount of music and information, you say? You are right! This can only be a tiny extract, filtered through our perspective and taste. We’ll focus on a selection that feels representative for its time – exciting, beautiful, obscure or interesting. And of course some dirty bangers.
Draußen sind gefühlt -15°C und es ist wirklich arschkalt. Nicht mal das Rauchen macht Spaß. Die Weltlage ist beschissen, es fühlt sich an, als würde es niemals wieder richtig Sommer werden. Franksen aber meint, wir sollen die Hoffnung dennoch nicht verlieren – irgendwo da draußen ist Licht. Er manifestiert das in diesen Mix voller Klassiker von 7inches. Und das gibt mir in Summe zumindest das Gefühl, dass es irgendwann doch noch mal Sommer wird – auch wenn die Weltlage beschissen bleibt. Jah man.

Ich wusste bis eben nicht, dass eine Schallplatte existiert, die die System-Sounds vom Nintendo 3DS auf sich versammelt.
Sonderlich viele scheint es davon nicht geben, denn wenn ich das richtig sehe, ist die nie offiziell veröffentlicht worden, was dieses Exemplar ziemlich selten machen dürfte. Funny: sich eine digitale Aufnahme einer Schallplatte anzuhören, die mit einem digitalen Soundtrack versehen wurde.
Aus Taner’s Funk Kitchen, gemixt von Ameritaner: Ein 30-minütiges Set mit eher entspannten, weniger bekannten Tunes von Daft Punk. Wie in der Beschreibung erwähnt, ist dieser Mix weniger auf Club-Atmosphäre ausgelegt, sondern eher für eine gemütliche Hörparty. Gerne auch in der Küche.

Mobys „When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die“ erschien ursprünglich vor über 30 Jahren und ging durch Stranger Things nun noch mal steil. Jetzt hat sich mit dem Sänger Jacob Lusk und Streicherinnen zusammengetan, um in seiner Wohnstube eine neue, noch eindringlichere Version zu schaffen. Sehr schön. Eine Studioversion davon gibt es auf dem neuen Album Future Quiet.
