Blitze in Slow Motion

Dustin Farrell war in diesem Jahr 30 Tage lang und 20.000 Meilen weit unterwegs, um mit einer High-Speed Kamera Videoaufnahmen von Blitzen zu machen. Die Ergebnisse sind wirklich ziemlich beeindruckend. So sieht man Blitze selten bis nie.

Lightning is like a snowflake. Every bolt is different. I learned that lightning varies greatly in speed. There are some incredible looking bolts that I captured that didn’t make the cut because even at 1000fps they only lasted for one frame during playback. I also captured some lightning that appear computer generated it lasted so long on the screen.

Die Formationen fliegender Starenschwärme sind immer recht beeindruckend. Alleine schon deshalb, weil die Vögel als Teil dessen nie zu kollidieren scheinen. Filmemacher Jan van IJken zeigt das in seinem kurzen Video The art of flying auf beeindruckende Weise.

The art of flying is a short film about “murmurations”: the mysterious flights of the Common Starling. It is still unknown how the thousands of birds are able to fly in such dense swarms without colliding. Every night the starlings gather at dusk to perform their stunning air show. Because of the relatively warm winter of 2014/2015, the starlings stayed in the Netherlands instead of migrating southwards. This gave filmmaker Jan van IJken the opportunity to film one of the most spectacular and amazing natural phenomena on earth.

Tag und Nacht zusammen: NYC Layer Lapse

Der Fotograf Julian Tryba hat aus verschiedenen Perspektiven verschiedene Locations in New York City fotografiert. Das auch zu verschiedenen Uhrzeiten. So hat er sowohl tags- als auch nachtsüber Fotos gesammelt, die er für dieses Video übereinander gelegt, bzw. miteinander collagiert hat. Der Sound ist jetzt nicht so meiner, aber optisch macht das schon was her.

Traditional time-lapses are constrained by the idea that there is a single universal clock. In the spirit of Einstein’s relativity theory, layer-lapses assign distinct clocks to any number of objects or regions in a scene. Each of these clocks may start at any point in time, and tick at any rate. The result is a visual time dilation effect known as layer-lapse.

Der indonesische Künstler Aditya Aryanto, dessen “Anicubes” neulich rumgingen, hat zu den Cubes jetzt auch Bälle gemacht, die in Tierform daherkommen und in den Videos sogar schweben können. Nice.
