Gerade in Zeiten sozialer Distanz sehr praktisch.

I built myself a proud parent because we could all use some more pats on the shoulder. And in case nobody has told you that they’re proud of you in a while: I’m proud of you. Yeah, you! Here’s a pat on the shoulder. Keep the 25¢, this one’s on me.

Quarantäne Disco in Balkonien

Neulich in Newcastle, UK:

On March 28, photographer Billy Bone, from Newcastle, UK, filmed from his house as flats on the opposite side of the river Tyne flashed their lights together at the sound of music as people were locked in their houses amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event was dubbed #isolationdisco and brought some solace to people spending time in isolation.

Billy said: “I am not sure how many people participated, but we have 40 apartments on our side, so there should be roughly the same amount on the other“.

It was pretty much exactly three weeks ago when I last visited my friend that works at the recycling station. He always takes interesting antique items at home and sells them on eBay, so he always has very cool old and rusty stuff to restore for me. Right at the moment when I first saw this oil lamp I knew I want to make a restoration video about it. He told me that must be a barn find because of the dirt that did stick to it. Not only because I liked its design, it was also very rusty and dirty and the glass was not broken. Well, it turned out later that it was indeed broken, but the crack was not visible and I realized that myself just after cleaning with the parts washer. I was shocked when I saw the huge crack, I wasn’t even sure if I made it when disassembling or cleaning. So I checked all the recordings right away to see if the crack was already there before and I was quite reliefed when I saw that I didn’t do it. I did a lot of research if it would be possible to repair it, unfortunately it’s impossible to fix a crack in glass.

In Spain, a taxi driver was known for taking patients to the hospital, free of charge.

One day, he got a call to pickup a patient from the hospital.

When he arrived, doctors and nurses surprised him with a standing ovation, plus an envelope of money.

Kurze Doku über ein fast verlassenes Dorf in Taiwan – und warum manche dennoch lieber bleiben: Still Here (還在)

„Still Here“ was filmed in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in the village where my grandmother lived, my mother grew up, and where I spent my childhood summers. Nine years ago, my grandmother moved out of the village. Recently, I discovered that not only did nobody move into my grandmother’s house after she left, but that the entire village had been displaced and decayed for years, except for a few residents who refused to leave. I was curious to find out what their lives were like now that the village was abandoned, and why they decided to stay.
