Zuurb – Orthosie (Mixtape)

Ich war letzte Nacht auf einer Geburtstagsparty eines Menschen, den ich vorher nie noch nie gesehen habe, habe dann gut eine Stunde damit verbracht, in diesem Kaff Brandenburgs Landeshauptstadt ein Taxi zu bekommen, kurz geschlafen, wieder hingelegt und die letzte Nacht weggekomat.

Zuurb hat einen Mix und dieser hat mich ganz wunderbar über den Kater gebracht. Ambient, Piano, ein paar Beats – so wie immer bei Zuurb. Ambient, wie er mir feiner nicht sein kann.

Phaeleh – The „Monday Is Okay“ Mix

Phaeleh hat diesen durchweg wunderbaren Ambient-Mix für The Ransom Note gemacht und der läuft hier schon seit gestern im Loop. Da tut der heute versteckte Montag gar nicht so weh. This Monday ist okay. Begleitet durch diesen Mix.

There is beauty amidst the spaces in between. Phaeleh has been releasing music since 2008 and throughout this time has produced three albums. On the eve of his latest release it seems somewhat fitting to reflect on his contributions to electronic music. The discourse of his music has seen him veer right and left between uk bass culture and somewhat cinematic soundscapes. Never standing still Phaeleh has taken influence from a range of genres and continues to explore the realm of possibilities within sound. Titled „Illusion Of The Tale“ he speaks bluntly about the roots and origins of the release.

Rbyn – DPR XS Podcast 19

Ambiente Downbeats, Atmosphäre und Bass. Rbyn hat den aktuellen Deeper Access Podcast gemixt, der eigentlich ein perfekter Soundtrack für den Sonntag wäre, hier aber montags auch sehr gut in die Woche führt.

Mein Mix ist schön düster und melancholisch geworden. Ich dachte mir: So Produzenten wie Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds oder Ludovico Einaudi entlocken ihren (organischen) Instrumenten die traurigsten Melodien, das funktioniert oft aber auch nach demselben (Moll-) Schema. Also bin ich mal der Frage nachgegangen wie eigentlich Künstler wie Ital Tek, Boards Of Canada, Synkro, Roly Porter, Clubroot oder ASC ihren Maschinen oder Synthies genau dieses Gefühl entlocken. Und wie klingt eigentlich ein Ayahuasca-Trip in seiner dunkelsten Stunde?

Album-Stream: bvdub – Yours are Stories of Sadness

Brock Van Wey aka bvdub hat heute still und heimlich ein neues Album auf Bandcamp veröffentlicht: Yours are Stories of Sadness. Ambient in seiner reinsten Form, schier endloses Rauschen. Genau das richtig, für die kommenden Herbstwochen, in denen der Kamin schon mal vom Staub des Sommers befreit werden kann.

True story…

In 2012, I was singing karaoke in the lavish VIP suite of the most opulent bar of Shaoxing. Hours in, at the height of drunken revelry, suddenly, literally out of nowhere, one of the hired girls walked over to me from the other end of the room, and whispered in my ear:

„When I saw you walk in, I knew yours was a story of sadness.“

These are flashes of memories from that time… broken fragments, and spaces in-between… each a portrait of instances I have remembered that moment, each its own place and time. Every time I remembered that moment in the years that followed, I made a brief tribute to the beginnings of that realization, and the starting point for my mental wanderings that followed… putting that initial realization to sound, before going the rest of the journey in my own head.

Unlike all my other works which are meant to be in the foreground, these are meant to stay in the shadows… to be the quiet and subconscious soundtrack… each not a story, but just a moment… that moment you realize. Unlike the norm, when I elucidate every second to near unbearable levels ;), this time how that moment materializes or continues is up to you…

As a result, they are, for the first time, unnamed… to let each take on its own meaning, and its own fabric in both my story and yours…

4 years later, these were the 19 times I remembered that moment… they will surely not be the last.

Runtime: 78:24. Or as long as you make it…

Isolatedmix 63 – Warmth

Ich bin neulich, eher zufällig, mal wieder über den Sound von Warmth gestolpert und auf diesem ziemlich festgebacken. Ich hatte ihn aus der guten alten Netlabel-Zeit im Hinterkopf und hörte dann tagelang nichts anderes. Diese akustische Wärme… Wie ein Kamin im Winter, in dem vor dem Haus ein Meter Schnee liegt.

Ich kaufte einiges und schob es in meine Ambient-Playlist, die in den nächsten Wochen für mich noch mal zum Thema werden wird. Und nun kommt Ryan von ASIP und hat einen Mix von Warmth: Isolatedmix 63 – Warmth. Manchmal fügt sich eben alles irgendwie zusammen und passt dann. Wunderschön.
